Governor Race Update

Former Lieutenant Governor Steve Henry said he intends to file for the Democratic nomination for governor next Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007.

Henry has declined to discuss his running mate situation, except to say he’s “pretty far along” in choosing someone.

Henry said he does not intend to put his wife on the ticket. She’s former Miss America Heather French Henry.

State Treasurer Jonathan Miller, former Lieutenant Governor Steve Beshear and Otis Hensley Jr. are also seeking the Democratic nomination.

And Paducah businessman Billy Harper said it doesn’t bother him that former Congresswoman Anne Northup may seek the Republican nomination for governor and he won’t change his plans.

Harper said a three-way race would require a runoff if no primary candidate receives at least 40 percent of the vote.

The primary is May 15, 2007 and a runoff would be June 19, 2007.

Governor Ernie Fletcher has also announced that he’ll seek re-election.
