Miss America 2009 Katie Stam Helps Veterans with Heroes at Home

Miss America 2009 Katie Stam

Helps Veterans with Heroes at Home

Miss America 2009 Katie Stam was in Colorado Springs this weekend helping a local veteran renovate his home to accommodate injuries he sustained in Iraq.

Katie joined Sears' Heroes at Home program, paired with Rebuilding Together, who have been working on the veteran's home for nearly a month.

As a part of Katie's platform, Promoting Community Service and Involvement, she has been traveling 20,000 miles a month across the country speaking about the importance of volunteering. Katie was thrilled to be able to give back to those that have given so much for us.

"It's hard to put into words this kind of feeling you get from helping out a military family," said Katie.

Katie will soon be off to Southern California to help celebrate the Fourth of July in style that will be completed with spectacular parades and festivities to mark the nation's birthday!

Lost and found! Miss Nevada to have crown

clipped from today.msnbc.msn.com

Unbeknownst to pageant organizers, a volunteer misplaced the headdress

An apologetic volunteer, not a thief, was to blame for the disappearance of the $400 crown, which turned up late Friday afternoon at a Reno alteration shop, said pageant organizer Teresa Benitez-Thompson.

Unbeknownst to pageant organizers, the volunteer misplaced the crown in a small box that accompanied other boxes and hanging bags of clothes to the business Thursday.

"The volunteer is so embarrassed. She loves the pageant and couldn't be any more apologetic," she said. "We sincerely thought an unauthorized person had the crown. Our belief in mankind has been affirmed with its discovery."

"I was so nervous we wouldn't have a crown, and I didn't get any sleep last night," said Benitez-Thompson, Miss America pageant director for the state and Miss Nevada 2002. "But we have our crown and couldn't be happier."

Twelve women will vie for the title.

clipped from www.wishtv.com

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Miss America Katie Stam is the newest spokesperson for the American Dairy Association of Indiana .

Her new job includes recording radio commercials, appearing in advertisements, and educating people on the importance of dairy in your diet.

"Basically what I am doing is I am just getting the word out there about how milk obviously is going to be great for your bones, for your muscles, it's so nutritious. It's so good too, to eat, think of all the different options you have, you have cheese, you have milk, you have yogurt, you have ice cream, all of these different dairy products and they're so good for you," said Stam.

Stam grew up on a dairy farm where she learned the importance of raising healthy cows and the value of hard work.

Stam is a former WISH-TV intern.

Tattle: Miss New Jersey rises from the Ashleys

clipped from www.philly.com
IF YOU WANT your daughter to be named Miss New Jersey, there's one clear path to success: Name her some variation of Ashley.

Ashley Shaffer, 22, of Millstone Township, won the title Saturday night at the Ocean City Music Pier.

First runner-up was Ashleigh Udalovas, 21, of Millville.

Last year's winner was Ashley Fairfield, of Egg Harbor.

Ashley S. will now compete in the Miss America Pageant, scheduled for Jan. 30 in Las Vegas, something so sacrilegious to Atlantic City that New Jersey shouldn't even send a contestant in protest.

"I have no idea what's going on right now," she said, shaking. "I'm going to Miss America! I can't believe it!"

Thief steals Miss Nevada crown

clipped from www.wcax.com

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Miss Nevada might not have a crown at her coronation Saturday.

Organizers say the crown, almost identical to the one worn by Miss America, was stolen Thursday from the locked Reno hotel room of a pageant board member.

The crown had arrived earlier in the day from K.A. Concepts, the official maker of Miss America crowns.

Pageant spokeswoman Teresa Benitez-Thompson says the company makes one crown for each state, and getting a replacement before Saturday night is impossible.

She says Circus Circus hotel security is going through security tapes, and organizers will not press charges if the crown is returned in good condition before the pageant.

The crown, valued at $400, is fitted with rhinestones.

National American Miss role models

clipped from www.namissblog.com

This is a fun picture of Nicole Renard, reigning National American Miss All-American Pre-Teen Queen and her sister Victoria Renard the reigning National Photogenic winner from our national pageant last November in Anaheim, California.

Nicole was recently named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. She was nominated by her Algebra teacher (she is taking high school Algebra in the 8th grade). Here is the link to the website.

Also, last week she was honored by her principal for having a 4.0 GPA for all semesters in Middle School. Way to go Nicole! Both of these girls are super talented and super sweet girls. We are so proud to have representatives like them for National American Miss.
