Happy Holidays!

clipped from www.missnc.org
The smell of Bar-b-que hung in the air as the blast of the police sirens began the annual Anson County Parade, my November was off and running. From the Anson parade to Miss Cabarrus County, it was an action packed day. Mallory Honeycutt and Mindy Pope were amazing as always. Entertained by a wonderful group of young ladies and teens, Marcie Trivette and Katy Ezzell captured the titles of Miss Cabarrus County and Cabarrus County's Outstanding Teen. Congratulations ladies!
The next week started at the Charlotte Douglas Airport. I was up bright and early to help the Carolina Panthers greet our troops as they arrived at the USO center. A big "thank you" to Lenn Long who came not only to take pictures, but also to make sure I had a Cinnabon!
Happy Holidays,
Katherine Southard

Bristol woman in Miss Universe contest

Bristol woman in Miss Universe contest

The sky's the limit for Bristol woman Emma-Jay Webber, who has qualified for the Miss Universe GB beauty pageant.

The 27-year-old from Bishopsworth is looking forward to competing in one of the world's biggest competitions of its kind.

Earlier this year, Emma-Jay reached the semi-final of Glamour Girl of the Year, coming in the top 80 from nearly 2,000 applicants.

The customer service representative only entered the competition after it caught her eye while browsing the internet.

But success fuelled her hunger to give Miss Universe a go and now Emma-Jay has found out she has qualified for the quarter final of the British qualifiers on January 11, in Cardiff.

Venezuela is losing its Miss World Charisma

With 17 titles - 6 Miss Universe, 5 Miss World, 5 Miss International and 1 Miss Earth - without a doubt, Venezuela is the the leading powerhouse in beauty pageants!
This decade was very fruitful for this South American nation.

Miss World - this decade they had 5 placements - and the highest was in 2002 - Goizeder Azua's Top 10 finish! Compared to their performance in the 90's, it was really poor. Two winners (1991 and 1995), one 1st runner up (1999), three 2nd runners up (1990, 1992, 1994) and two 4th runners up (1993 and 1996). They only missed the Top 10 in 1997 and 1998 - and the reason was because Venezuela didn't send their national winners to Miss World. This decade, Venezuela did not even make it to the final cut.

Stefania Fernandez, Miss Universe 2009: Red Carpet Fashion Year In Review

Universal Fashion Doll:
If you've been keeping up with the Pageant World (and I have of course!) you might remember that early this year, in the Bahamas Atlantis Resort, 19 year old Stefania Fernandez was crowned Miss Universe 2009. This was the second year in a row a woman from that country (where I was raised by the way) had won the coveted crown. She has since made many appearances, representing the Miss Universe Organization and on behalf of AIDS, a cause which the Donald Trump-owned organization supports. She's also been "out-and-about" at parties, events and many a fashion week shows. Stefania has become a little "fashion plate" in her own right.

Kraft’s “Miss Universe” ad a tad cheesy

I have never been one of these overly cynical people who thinks the public at-large is stupid, but I do believe there are many people who unquestioningly believe what they are told because they have lazy tendencies.
Checking out facts takes time.
IT IS BECAUSE of that basic trend of human nature that I wonder about the “genius” who came up with the new advertising campaign being used by Kraft Foods in the United States on Spanish-language television.
It is meant to be a “clever” gag to promote the idea that Kraft-brand slices of American cheese are made from “real” ingredients, rather than phony substitutes. But I’m still bothered by what I could see as confusion, and also the fact that the Univision television network is willing to play along with the ad.
I guess their top priority is the money they are being paid by Kraft to participate in the stunt. Which ultimately is what this whole thing is – a cheap stunt.

Merry Christmas NAM Style

clipped from www.namissblog.com

And the award for my favorite Christmas card received this year goes to....... The Renard Family in Washington! Nicole just gave up her title as your National Pre-Teen All-American Queen and Victoria just started working as a choreographer for NAM. As you can tell from the picture on the card, the entire family is a lot of fun!
The first picture is of Nicole and myself at the Tri-Cities Family Expo where we had a National American Miss booth last year - we were competing in the flying kangaroo game. For the record, I'm pretty sure I won!
Merry late Christmas to everyone and a happy new year.

Critically Low Levels

Colorado, Okalahoma, and many other states hit recently by bad winter weather are experiencing critically low levels of blood supplies.
Columbus, Georgia is reporting less than ONE day supply at it's American Red Cross location and in January they are enticing donors with 2 FREE tickets on Delta Airlines.
Do blood banks/centers really need to entice people with giveaways or prizes in order to save lives? I would like to think not, however, it's apparent that with such critically low levels across the United States, we need donors and we need them now.
I should also note that this isn't just restricted to the US at this time, South Africa is reporting unusally low levels along with several other Europeon countries.
