Meredith Boyd, Mrs. Georgia International 2008: Mere's Miracles!

Bells will be ringing this holiday season as thousands of runners and walkers hit the nation’s pavements, pathways and parks this winter to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability. My dearest friend Angela Smith, Mrs. North Dakota International will be one of those people, tying jingle bells to her shoelaces to participate in the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis, a 5K fun run/walk to benefit the Arthritis Foundation! Her team is called "Mere's Miracles" in honor of my quest to help those who suffer everyday from this disease. Thank you so much Ang and your girls!

And YOU can help, too! 'Tis the season for giving! Won't you sponsor Mere's Miracles to help raise funds to fight arthritis? Arthritis affects more than 46 million Americans, including 300,000 children, costing the U.S economy over $128 billion annually. The Arthritis Foundation needs our help. Please visit Mere's Miracles Web page to join the team or make a secure, online contribution to help raise the needed funds for the Arthritis Foundation’s mission to prevent, control and cure arthritis.

Jingle, Jingle, Jingle … A little change makes a lot of cents!

By Robin Leach

First comes her Master’s degree in drama -– and then comes her dream of becoming a Broadway performer. Julianna Erdesz is this year’s Miss Nevada, competing against 51 other contestants in the Feb. 3 Miss America pageant at the Planet Hollywood Theatre for the Performing Arts, and she will be showcasing her vocal skills in the talent portion of the contest.

The 24-year-old former University of Nevada-Reno student made the Dean’s List while there. Since then, she’s gone on to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy with a $20,000 audition-based scholarship and also at the New School University. It’s really been a case of putting herself through college earning a $10,000 Government Millennium scholarship at the same time as being Miss Carson City!

Bertolo: Mimi Pabon continues to impress

Miriam "Mimi" Pabon, Puerto Rico's delegate in the Miss International pageant, continues to impress in the many pictures that have been distributed of her in this pageant's events. She is also included in many top lists and in ever picture she excels. There is a lot of expecation with this girl. Would she be the second Puerto Rican to win the crown of Miss International?

Beauties of America Pageant - Official Blogspot: a busy weekend...

Hey BOA Fans, its been a busy weekend in the South for me. I was requested at the United States preliminary as special guest last weekend... I was asked to Emcee the pageant as well as Entertain (a little thing you didnt know about me is... I am a trained Opera/Broadway singer, so anytime I can sing or perform, I'm your girl!!) The Pageant kicked off with over 15 contestants vying for the Junior, Teen, and Miss titles of Western Carolina United States, which will take them to the Miss South Carolina United States Pageant in March of 2009!! The pageant resulted in crowning Junior Teen Western Carolina: Sutton Metz; Teen Western Carolina: Mae-Ann Webb; and Miss Western Carolina: Britnie Turner. It was well done and a success! I sang a classic Judy Garland (Southern Song) : Rock-a-bye-Your-Baby-With-A-Dixie-Melody - I had a blast! (pictures to come)

Next...

I was honored to judge a preliminary pageant for the Dream Girls USA system in Kings Mountain, NC - really close to my hometown of Charlotte, NC. The pageant was a lot of fun with a really cool category for the upcoming holiday, HALLOWEEN COSTUME of choice!! It was fun to see the contestants pick out different varieties of costumes and branch out a little bit from the "typical" pageant everyone is used to! I have never seen such professional little girls in my life! Serious talent there! Future Beauties of America's, Miss America's and Miss USA's right in front of my eyes! :) Thanks to Misty Carson and Jeree' Current for having me!

I have many more appearances scheduled in the next months. Some in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. Also, I will be getting my official headshots done with my crown and sash in the next few months...

Much Love,

Bertolo: Miss Earth's Swimsuit Photo shoot

If you want to see pictures of some of Miss Earth's competitors in their swimsuit co to www.winninpegsun.com. The pageant, which mission is to protect the environment and earth, is held in Manila, Philippines and draws contestants from all over the world. Pictures from Misses England, Slovakia, Japan and others are posted in the website. The pageant will be held on November 9.

By the way, what ever happened to the Puerto Rico's representative? Apparently she was a no-show and now we don't have anyone representing the Island. With so many gorgeous girls who just competed in Miss Puerto rico Universe, that is a waste. With the great quality we had this year, we could have had our first Miss Earth with girls like Miss Bayamon, Guaynabo, San Lorenzo, Catano, Adjuntas and Santurce.

Valerie Hayes - The Pageant Coach (TM) Teaching Life Skills that Transcend Pageantry! (TM): Everyone Deserves a Red Carpet Moment!

My trip to San Diego was lots of fun and a huge success! I met lots of people from the modeling and entertainment industries and experienced my first “red carpet” moment! After the limo pulled up and dropped me off, I was waiting my turn on the red carpet behind a soap star, two feature film directors, a TV actress, a stand-up comedienne, and a movie actress. When they announced my name to the photographers and it was my turn for photos, the gallery watching the celebrities unexpectedly went wild. It turned out that the gallery was full of pageant titleholders and contestants!

It was fun to see pageantry so well represented in the crowd by titleholders from across several prestigious pageant systems. Everyone there looked absolutely pageant fab in their crowns and sashes! After the fashion show several of the titleholders were posing for their own photos with fans and signing autographs! You could really sense the camaraderie among the titleholders and pageant fans and it was a great example of what pageantry is all about. Thanks again to everyone who attended and for making my first red carpet moment so memorable!

MissAmerica.org Blog » October 24, 2008

Hello All!

I wanted to take some time out of my hectic schedule to let you know what I’ve been up to for the past few weeks. Since I last blogged, I had the opportunity to experience some great events! On October 11, I served as the Grand Marshal of the University of Cincinnati’s homecoming parade. It was great to be back in the area and get to spend time with friends I don’t get to see too often. I was able to reconnect and have some wonderful career-related conversations with the heads of our Musical Theatre and Drama departments… my former professors and friends. Their support, enthusiasm and guidance mean SO very much to me. I was even able to sit in on rehearsals for CCM’s upcoming performances and it was so nice to be back in a rehearsal! A lovely weekend, AND our football team won on its homecoming weekend, so I was excited about that too - GO BEARCATS!

Speaking of rehearsals and musical theatre… I don’t think I mentioned what an AMAZING time I had visiting with fellow musical theatre majors at Oakland University when I was there last month, in Rochester, Michigan. The University, in my home county, had me speak to the MT majors and on the general campus about my platform and sign autographs. I was even taken around campus in Chrysler’s version of a smart electric car… a GEM car. I had a blast and it was so nice to be welcomed back and spend some time with my peers.

Mrs. Oregon International 2008: Rise and shine for KPTV-Fox 12's Good Day Oregon!

The morning started early as I donned a red dress and headed to the Oregon Convention Center.  Why so early?  To participate in a live remote broadcast with KPTV-Fox 12's Good Day Oregon to talk about Go Red For Women and the American Heart Association's display at the Annual NW Women's show!  Andy Carson was his usual ebullient self and appeared to have already hit the coffee machine by the time I arrived at 5:20 a.m.

We had a chance to talk about the Go Red For Women program and why I, as Mrs. Oregon International, was speaking as a volunteer. For me it is a meld of professional and personal commitment to the issue.

According to the initial pictures that have been distributed in the last day or so from the Miss International pageant, the latin girls are a force to be reckon with. As always, girls from Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico and Venezuela are simply stunning and causing a good impression.

This competition is just starting so anything can happen. For now good luck to all our beautiful girls from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mayra Matos is the new Miss Puerto Rico Universe!

After weeks of speculation and anticipation, Puerto Rico has a new queen, the beautiful Mayra Matos, Miss Cabo Rojo. Mayra bested 70 other delegates from all over the Island in what many consider a fierce battle of beauties. The first runner-up was Miss San Juan, another strong candidate.

Mayra will represent Puerto Rico in the Miss Universe pageant next year.

It was a exciting night even though us watching the pageant through WAPA America had trouble with the transmission. Quite annoying when we are paying extra to get this channel. Very disappointing after all the hype around this new channel.

Miss International 2008 Officially Started

I have announced here that the 48th Miss International Beauty Pageant will be held on the 8th of November 2008 in Venetian Macau Resort Hotel. Sixty (60) contestants are expected to attend the pageant and the outgoing Miss International is Miss Mexico Priscilla Perales Elizondo.

The different delegates are now embarking from their countries to convene in Macau. I have announced here that Miss Philippines, Patricia Fernandez, flew from Manila to Macau today.

Of the expected 60 delegates from all over the world, Miss Guadeloupe Nancy Karen Fleurival and Miss Canada Elina Semikina are the tallest candidates at 6'2" and 6'1" respectively. Miss Hong Kong Sire Ma is the smallest at 5'3"1/2. There are four ladies who stand 5'5" - the second smallest. They are Miss Sri Lanka Faith Landers,  Miss Singapore Tok Wee Ee, Miss Macau Florence Loi and Miss Hawaii Serena Karnagy.

Another interesting note on this pageant is the participation of Miss Estonia Kardi Nogu - the very first for her country thus this is the debut of Estonia in Miss International pageant.

Eight countries are returning after years of abscence in the pageant. Italy last competed in 1994, Belgium in 1996, Hawaii in 2004. 2005 is the last time Macau, Bahamas and Sweden competed and 2006 for Martinique and Norway.

In the history of this pageant, Venezuela was the winningest country with 5 winners followed by the Philippines with 4. Venezuela won in 1985, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006. Philippines won in 1964, 1970, 1979 and 2005.

Miss International remains one of the Grand Slam Pageants with no winner resigned or dethroned along with Miss Tourism Queen International.

Ellen Show « Miss Utah 2008

We started filming on location the day after we arrived.  We filmed for four days, had a three day break, and then returned back to the location to continue filming.  During the duration of the three days we had off we were able to be on the Ellen Show, go on a Warren Brothers tour, go to an Angels game, visit the Los Angeles Zoo, meet the Mayor of Manhattan Beach, visit a Children’s Hospital, and go to many sponsored dinners.

While on the Ellen show, we participated in an ongoing joke Ellen has with George Clooney.  She is constantly trying to get him to come out of his office, which is located behind her studio.  To do this she uses various guests on her show to help with her schemes.  This is where the Miss America Contestants come in.  Instead of being on Ellen’s set, we stood behind her studio - right in front of George Clooney’s office.  Ellen instructed all of us to walk in a circle while repeating, “We sing this tunney for Mr. George Clooney!” She was hoping that by parading us around his office it would lure him out.  It was quite comical to see 53 women (counting Miss America) trying to beckon out George.  What’s funny is that he wasn’t even there; nor do I think he is ever there for her jokes.

— When she arrived at the Price Chopper supermarket on Balltown Road this morning, Linda Ryan of Schenectady did not to expect to see a woman in a tiara at the entrance.

Ryan had stopped to pick up some dog food and other groceries when she met Miss America, Kirsten Haglund, who was urging customers to quit smoking and promoting a quit-smoking product she endorses. Ryan was pleased by the surprise.

“That’s awesome,” she said.

Ryan quit smoking herself four years ago this November. She had been diagnosed with peripheral artery disease.

“I went cold turkey,” she said.

Miss USA's cancer scare prompts education campaign | Health & Medicine | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

photoIf Crystle Stewart had a nickname suitable to her life right now, it would likely be "The Body." The 26-year-old Missouri City resident and University of Houston graduate is the reigning Miss USA, and is known for winning, hands-down, every swimsuit competition she's been in. This beauty is also smart, confident and healthy. Not long ago she had a breast cancer scare — a biopsy showed that a lump was benign — and she's taken on breast cancer awareness as the theme of her year as Miss USA. She took time recently for a photo shoot at The Endeavour luxury high-rise in Seabrook and talked with Chronicle Health editor Diane Cowen.

Q: How did you get interested in beauty pageants?

A: I was at the mall and ran into a friend who used to compete in pageants. She encouraged me to do it. I never in a million years thought I'd compete, let alone win.

Q: You won on your first try?

A: No, I competed in the Miss Houston pageant before and was a runner up a few times — but I won the swimsuit contests. Eventually I won Miss Texas USA (in July 2007) and then Miss USA (in April 2008). (She also placed in the top 10 in the Miss Universe pageant in July 2008.)

Q: So you always knew you had a great body?

A: It's funny, but I didn't. My friend had asked me "How's your body?" and all I could say was "I don't know." I ran track in high school so I guess I was in shape. But I got in a swimsuit, and every year I won.

Miss Teen Louisiana USA lost her crown following an arrest for skipping out on a $46.07 restaurant bill.

RPM Productions, producer of the Miss Louisiana USA and Miss Teen Louisiana USA pageants, told FOXNews.com Wednesday that Lindsey Evans was stripped of her title.

The Adventures of Miss Florida 2008: LA!!

Hello everyone!

I have returned to the Sunshine State having survived my first Reality TV experience!

The night before I left we celebrated with dinner at"Two Chefs"! I had my first espresso hoping that it would help me stay awake to finish packing! Franz, the Sullivan's resident waiter, posed for the picture. :)

Although I cannot say much about the content of the show, I can say that I have faith that it will be a series you won't want to miss! The production company was fabulous and commented that we "pageant girls" were not what they expected. Imagine that! They treated us with respect and admiration. MAO was alert 24/7 making sure that we were well taken care of and it was a great chance to spend some time the MAO staff. I had a wonderful time getting to know the other contestants and I think you will be quite impressed in January!

The slideshow below consists of pictures we were allowed to take on our days off - so don't think you're getting a sneak peak!

One of my first duties upon my return was attending the MFO Franchise Meeting in St. Petersburg. It was wonderful to see the entire Miss Florida Board as well as many Local ED's. We are all very excited to welcome several NEW local franchises to the Miss Florida family!! Be sure to check if there is a new local in your area!

At a delicious dinner with Mary and the Board!

If not, please tune in to Miss America Live! on January 24th on TLC. And everyone, please be sure to watch Miss America: Countdown to the Crown airing Friday nights in January!
