A new Miss New Jersey is crowned

A Monmouth County woman is the newest Miss New Jersey.

Ashley Shaffer, 22, of Millstone Township was awarded the state’s tiara during the final night of pageant competition on Saturday night in Ocean City. According to the Associated Press, Shaffer’s pageant performance included singing a piece from Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Turandot” during the talent portion of the competition.

Shaffer is a student at Marist College in New York and competed in the pageant as the reigning Miss Columbus Day. Her platform is Enhancing Children’s Health Through Education and Support.”
