In less than three weeks, Miss Louisiana Jamie Wilson will be competing for the title of Miss America. This year’s Miss Louisiana calls Minden home and will be “sent off” by friends and family with a trunk show and reception at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 13 at the Strauss Little Theater in Monroe. Wilson will be modeling her Miss America wardrobe and be able to visit with guests before heading to Las Vegas for national competition. Miss America preliminary competition will be held Thursday, January 25 through Saturday, January 27. Finals will be held Monday, January 29 and be broadcast on CMT. Wilson drew the number 14 slot in the Mu Group and will compete in interview Thursday morning; on-stage question Thursday night; swimsuit and evening gown Friday night; and talent on Saturday night. Only the top 10 will perform during the live telecast Monday night. For more information on the reception and trunk show, contact Danny Wilson at 377-4121. Wilson earned her Miss Louisiana crown Saturday, June 17 after five years of competing — once as Miss Minden. Wilson, who sang Cher’s “The Way of Love” for her talent, has been working on her platform — educating people about dyspraxia, a developmental condition affecting her younger brother. Dyspraxia is slowness in developing coordination, often with some slowness in mental and emotional development. It’s also called clumsy child syndrome, developmental co-ordination disorder, minimal brain dysfunction: motor learning difficulty, and pereceptuo-motor dysfunction. Wilson is the first Minden native and former Miss Minden to capture the title. Wilson now lives in the fully furnished Miss Louisiana apartment in Monroe and is serving as the official hostess for the State of Louisiana. One appearance Wilson is especially excited about is the Miss Minden Pageant in February, as Miss Louisiana always emcees the annual event. More at the Source |
