Miss Louisiana Jamie Wilson ‘sent off’ by friends, family

MONROE — Dozens of friends and family converged at the Strauss Little Theater in Monroe Saturday to wish Miss Louisiana Jamie Wilson the very best as she heads to Las Vegas this week to compete for the title of Miss America.

Wilson first modeled her wardrobe for the national pageant and performed her talent, her rendition of Faith Hill’s “Like We Never Loved Before.”

Wilson modeled a stunning wardrobe, including her traveling suit, two cocktail dresses, swimsuit, top five gown, evening gown and talent outfit, which she said was her favorite.

She was then able to visit with her fans and sign autographs.

As soon as Wilson was crowned Miss Louisiana, she began preparing for Miss America, first signing all the necessary paperwork.

Since September, her schedule has been a whirlwind of appearances around the state while training for national competition at the same time.
“I have been preparing on a daily basis,” Wilson said. “I want to be a well-rounded, consistent contestant in the Miss America Pageant.”

Wilson has spent countless hours at the gym and has participated in mock interviews. She also said she has been doing “girl stuff,” shopping and tanning.

“I have been preparing for every aspect of competition — it has been all-around preparation,” she said. “It’s been a little exhausting, not only preparing for Miss America, but also making appearances all over the stay, promoting Louisiana. It’s been very much a balance — it’s completely doable, but exhausting.”

Wilson leaves for Vegas on Friday.
