Kristen Eddings |
LAS VEGAS
Thursday began the true tests of Kristen Eddings' attempt to become Miss America.
As she stood waiting to be interviewed by a group of five judges, she slowly paced, smiled at passers-by and hummed "Great Is Thy Faithfulness."
When Miss South Dakota, Callee Bauman, left the room, it was Kristen's turn to take part in one of the most important portions of the Miss America competition.
She took a few deep breaths and walked in smiling.
The interview is worth a quarter of the points that will determine which 10 women will be finalists in Monday's pageant.
"The interview is the most important thing," Kristen said later that afternoon. It is worth fewer points than talent -- a change from years past.
However, "Interview is the first impression judges have of you, and you just can't change your first impression," she said.
In addition, "If you're going to be Miss America you better have a really good interview," she said.
