Here she is ... Miss Iowa. Emily Nicholas, 21, will be leaving her home in Clear Lake next week for Las Vegas, where she will be competing for the Miss America title.
This is a family tradition. Her sister, Carolyn Nicholas Haugland, 26, was Miss Iowa 2004. The sisters sang the national anthem at Friday's inauguration of Gov. Chet Culver and Lt. Gov. Patty Judge.
Let's prepare Emily for the interview portion of her competition with 20 questions:
1. No Miss Iowa has ever won the Miss America title. What have they got against us?
I don't know, but I've heard it's going to be broken this year because Iowa's bringing home the crown.
2. You're predicting victory?
(Laughs.) Of course. Absolutely. I'm very proud to be representing this state, and I'm going out there with more confidence, I'm sure, than anyone out there. I'm confident that I can win the crown. And I'm excited about it. I'm ready to go.
