The least glamorous item modeled by Miss Mississippi Christine Kozlowski at her wardrobe trunk show Sunday might be the most inspirational — a purple apron with the Miss America logo on the bib.
Kozlowski loves to cook, longtime Vicksburg pageant director Pat Hopson told the audience, and wanted one of the aprons. “I told her I wouldn’t give it to her until she won the crown, but I think I’ll do it now and put a little extra pressure on her to bring the Miss America title back to Mississippi.”
Three days of preliminary competitions in interview, talent, swimsuit and evening wear will precede the final televised night when Miss America 2009 will be crowned.
Four Miss Mississippi title-holders have gone on to win Miss America since its inception in 1921. The Miss America organization along with its state and local affiliates is the world’s largest provider of scholarships to young women, awarding more than $45 million in 2008.
