Valerie Hayes - The Pageant Coach (TM) Teaching Life Skills that Transcend Pageantry! (TM): Judging at Texas American Beauty!

Well, this weekend was a busy weekend filled with coaching private students and judging a pageant. On Sunday I judged the Texas American Beauty pageant in Houston Texas and it was a very exciting pageant with an impressive stage production! The pageant had been originally scheduled for the weekend that Hurricane Ike hit the Houston area and was rescheduled becuase even the most dedicated pageant competitor cannot compete in the eye of a hurricane! While like other pageants this year their enrollment was slightly lower due to the economy, these contestants were not in the least bit daunted by their experience with Ike and the competition was very tough! The pageant included Teen, Miss, Ms., and Mrs. divisions and the winners in each category were both intelligent and beautiful. I confess that while I was judging I noticed that many of the contestants weren't doing "the basics" and it reminded me again of how important basic pageant skills are to getting a winning score. I hope that you'll all remember that, just like any skill, you've got to work to develop and maintain your pageant skill set. Now that the Texas titleholders have been crowned, they'll be setting their sites on the American Beauty national title! Good luck to all the new titleholders!
