Miss World Organisation allows pregnant beauty queen to keep title

The head of the Miss World Organisation has come out in support of Miss Jamaica World, Sara Lawrence, who announced that she was relinquishing the title due to pregnancy.

Founder and Chairman of the Miss World Limited, Julia Morley, has written to the local promoters, making it clear that Sara Lawrence will not be stripped of the Miss World Caribbean title.

Mrs. Morley has advised the head of the local pageant, Mickey Haughton-James, to do likewise.

According to Mrs. Morley, Sara is a brilliant girl whose behaviour and promotion of Jamaica is second to none.

The Miss World head also describes Sara Lawrence as a warm, compassionate and caring person.

Mrs. Morley further argued that it is not for anyone to condemn Ms Lawrence, but to give her the love and support she needs during her pregnancy.

The beauty queen created a stir last week when she announced that she was pregnant and was relinquishing her Miss Jamaica World title.

Women's Advocate Margaret McCauley argued that Miss Lawrence's role as an activist for safe sex has been compromised by her pregnancy.

But Gender Consultant Dr. Glenda Simms came to Ms Lawrence's defence stating that no one has the right to condemn her for getting pregnant.
