Galaxy contestant earns top Miss Illinois honors

At 12 years old, Stephanie Daughenbaugh had an idea. But little did she know how far it would take her.
The idea was to compete in the Young at Heart Festival’s beauty pageant in her hometown of Machesney Park near Rockford. She won and set off on a career in modeling and pageantry.
“Modeling lets me travel — it’s fun and exciting,” the 28-year-old La Salle resident said. “In pageantry, I get to meet new people and I learn things about myself. It teaches me discipline, self confidence.”
Daughenbaugh recently won the 2007 Miss Illinois Galaxy pageant. She will represent Illinois in the Miss Galaxy pageant July 18-22 in Orlando, Fla. Contestants will be from across the United States and other countries.
