Local woman is 50s delegate to national pageant

YAKIMA, Wash. — Janice Richards of Yakima is the Evergreen State's 50s delegate to the national Beauties of America pageant in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in August.

As the represen-tative of Washing-ton, 50-year-old Richards will compete in her age category for the title of 2009 America's 50s queen. This is Richards' first time competing in a pageant.

She is a 1977 graduate of Davis High School, and received her bachelor's degree in journalism from Central Washington University. She then earned her master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of Washington.

Richards serves on the boards of Wellness House, the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, Miss Yakima County and New Leaders Yakima County.
