International beauties assist Rotary Colombo East in flagship fund - raiser

The Rotary Club of Colombo East, in association with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board proudly present a bevy of International Beauty Pageant Winners, in what is the most glamorous fashion event to take place in Sri Lanka. on the 24th of February 2007 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla.

Chartered on the 13th of May 1984, the Club has proved to be one of the most dynamic within the Rotary International District 3220-Sri Lanka, being a trendsetter in the field of Entertainment and Fashion as a means of fund raisers for its projects. World renowned Beauties such as Aishwarya Rai ,Jacqueline Arguillera, Irene Skylyva, International personalities such as lmran Khan and Kiran Bedi, The Miss India's 2006, Amrita Tapar and Sindura Gadde, along with our very own Rozanne Dias, Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2005 have been featured as our Guests, and have been a part of our fund raising projects.

In 2006, PP Cida Subramaniam spearheaded the success of Fashion Statement 06, with the participation of world renowned Indian Designers Satya Paul and Wendell Rodericks.

Fashion Statement 07, under the purview of President Ananda de Silva and the Chairman of the Project, PP Cida Subramaniam, in itself is extraordinary as it is the backbone, and the main fundraiser of the Club for its numerous projects in progress at any time, to improve the quality of life for local communities. In its sustainable development projects, three take mainstay in the immediate future in the form of

1) Community Centre, the extent of which will be approximately 400 sq ft and cost about Rs 500,000 in Spilyaya village in Lunugamvehera, the construction of which will commence in March 2007 and will take 3 months to complete. The Rotary Club of Colombo East provided safe drinking water to this village in May 2006, which consists of about 30 households. Pre School classes will be conducted in the Community Centre premises after completion.

2) Safe Drinking Water to be provided to a village in Eluvankulama in the Puttalam District, consisting of about 50 households. Construction of a well with a water tank and engine driven water pump with water being distributed via pipe lines to about 04 central locations in the village amounting to an approximate cost of Rs 800.000/-will commence in March 2007 and be completed in 4 months

3) A sewing Centre for girls from under privileged homes to be constructed at a cost of Rs 600,000/- within the premises of a temple in Welisara. Proposed to commence construction in March 2007, this Centre, approximately 500-600 Sq ft is expected to be fully functional by June 2007. The Club would provide the Centre with 12 Sewing machines and training would be under the auspices of the Ministry of Skills Development.
