Miss SC Pageant Officials Respond to Investigation

(WLTX) - In the statement below the Miss South Carolina Organization responds to the Secretary of State Offices' investigation into disbursement of scholarship funds.

LIBERTY - Since 1958 the Miss South Carolina Organization has awarded and paid thousands upon thousands of dollars in scholarships for our contestants to further their college education.

Today the Miss South Carolina Organization is the number one state pageant in providing scholarship assistance to our contestants.

Going forward, the Miss South Carolina Organization will both grow and expand our scholarship assistance.

We will continue to encourage our contestants to continue their education and empower them for life.

We make no apologies for the disbursement guidelines contestants are asked to follow when requesting their scholarship funds be paid to their respective college or university.

At four separate meetings, each contestant is provided a copy of the disbursement guidelines. At one of those meetings our staff discusses the guidelines with the contestants and answers any questions they may have. Each contestant then provides a signed affidavit asserting that she has read and fully understands the scholarship disbursement guidelines before she competes.

All Miss South Carolina solicited scholarship donations are deposited into an account maintained and administered by the Spartanburg County Foundation on our behalf. This account can be used for no other purpose.

Once a contestant produces proper documentation, the request is forwarded to the Spartanburg County Foundation for payment directly to the designated college or university. The scholarship check and letter is sent to the college or university. The contestant also receives a copy as does the Miss South Carolina Organization.
