YEAR after year they make it to the finals of the Miss Universe pageant. But rarely do they figure in the top five.
MISS SINGAPORE |
MISS THAILAND -- |
Will one of the beauties from this region break that jinx this year?
Don't be surprised if they do.
The girls from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand are capable of holding their own when they battle for the big prize on 28 May in Mexico City.
Miss Thailand Farung Yuthithum, is a serious classical music lover. She has been playing the piano since she was three and wants to be a concert pianist.
Miss Malaysia Adelaine Chin also loves music and she does not restrict her love to classical music.
'I enjoy listening to music and surfing the web the most because they help me to lay back, relax and rejuvenate my inner soul and senses,' she said on the MissUniverse website.
The KL-raised Adelaine wants to be a successful entrepreneur and financial engineer.
MISS PHILIPPINES |
MISS INDONESIA |
Miss Indonesia Agni Kuswardono wants to set up an education centre for poor children and for children with special needs such as the autistic and mentally challenged.
She was raised in Canberra, Australia, where her father served as the 3rd Secretary of the Indonesian Embassy.
She said that when she was a little girl, she was quite a tomboy and enjoyed climbing up trees.
And that was something our own Miss Singapore Jessica Tan indulged in her childhood.
'I was a tomboy who loved to play with insects and run through the mud when it rained,' she said on the website.
She wants to start an 'adopt-a-tree' programme for children in schools to nurture children to care for their environment from an early age.
Miss Philippines Anna Theresa Licaros wants to be a lawyer. She loves to play mahjong in her spare time.
But for now, the beauties are sweating it out preparing for the finals. The rehearsals for the finals started on Thursday and they last for long hours with only breaks for lunch and dinner.
