Having relished every swish and sway of the entrance of the 86 contestants set to compete for the Miss Universe 2006 crown, the roughly 350 guests at the Tuesday, July 11 reception in the Wilshire Grand Los Angeles' Golden State Ballroom were in no mood for speeches.
"This reminds me of a Council meeting, and that isn't good," Ninth District City Councilwoman Jan Perry said during a concerted attempt to deliver a pro-Downtown message, her words marginally sustaining the attention of the assemblage.
