About two years ago Emily was sitting in the crowd rooting for her best friend and sister Carolyn as she was crowned Miss Iowa.
"Just seeing her year as Miss Iowa was such a great experience and seeing her on a day to day basis, talking with people meeting new people, singing, it was such a good thing for her and I thought well I kinda wanna try it myself," said 2006 Miss Iowa winner Emily Nicholas.
Emily did try, and she succeeded. They are the first sisters to each win the title of Miss Iowa. And now it's Carolyn's turn to the cheering.
"I was more nervous watching her than when I was actually competing," said 2004 Miss Iowa winner Carolyn Nicholas.
Winning Miss Iowa isn't just a gene that runs in the family. Emily says preparing for the pageants is her full time job.
