Miss USA Visits High School Alma Mater

April 19, 2007 07:42 PM

Tennessee's own Miss USA returned home to the mid-state for a few days. She visited her alma mater Davidson Academy High School Thursday to speak to students.

"These kids can be Miss USA, doctors, lawyers or whatever they want. It's gonna take a lot of hard work. Things don't come naturally," Miss USA Rachel Smith said.

While Smith was only a month into her reign, she has already appeared on all the big network talk shows, including Letterman and Oprah. She's all moved into her 5th Avenue apartment in New York.

"Everything I have known has changed within a split second of them calling my name," Smith said.

She told the students at Davidson that the national spotlight has changed her schedule, but hasn't changed her or her faith.

"I'm going to let my faith shine through, my spirituality be the best and live up to those expectation, individuals and myself have for me," Smith said.

She took questions from the student audience, including a big one. One student popped the big questions to Smith, but she is already involved in a relationship.

She said she was a little tired for her appearance, but every autograph gets signed when she's out and about.

Some might say it's one of her duties as Miss USA, but those who remember her locally, said that's just Rachel.

Rachel and her parents will appear as special guests Friday on talk of the town at 11:00 a.m.
