This is not a beauty competition. The main purpose of this pageant is to provide an outlet for the community to learn about the Caribbean culture and to
help maintain the culture for those of Caribbean descent who are here in the US. The judges are looking for originality, creativity and uniqueness etc. not
who has the most expensive or prettiest attire.
All contestants will receive a letter stating their participation in the pageant. This can be used to obtain sponsorship. As a thank-you to sponsors, a link to their company's website will be placed on the pageant's website and their name, physical address and phone number will be placed on the program.
ISLAND FIRE PAGEANT
Due to the lack of knowledge, events and means of promoting the Caribbean culture in the Raleigh NC and surrounding areas, the first Caribbean pageant,
Ms. Island Queen was held in 1998. As knowledge of the pageant circulated the area, men also became interested in this event. As a result, the first Annual
Mr. and Ms. Island Fire pageant was established in November 2000.
The men, women, boys and girls compete separately in this pageant. The age range for contestants is 10 - 12 yrs (Prince & Princess); 13 - 17 yrs (Jr. Mr.
& Miss); 18 - 35 yrs (Mr. & Ms.) Contestants DO NOT have to be born on a Caribbean island/country; however, they should have had some form of EXPOSURE to the Caribbean culture. The competitive categories are Introduction, Island/Caribbean Wear, Talent, Formal Wear and Question & Answer. Winners
receive a cash prize, crown, trophy and sash.
The pageant is open to the public and is held annually in Raleigh, NC. You do not have to be a resident of NC to participate. Deadline for registration is June 1, 2007.
