ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Service members in Italy and Turkey will be treated to a USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour Oct. 27 - Nov. 4, featuring Tara Conner, Miss USA(R) 2006. Conner will visit several bases, meet and greet service members, pose for pictures and judge a family and teen talent show involving service members and their families.
Conner -- a 20-year-old business administration major at Somerset Community College -- is the first woman from Kentucky to win the crown. The Russell Springs native will spend the next year fulfilling the responsibilities of Miss USA, raising awareness about breast and ovarian cancer education, research and legislation. She served as a presenter at the USO 65th Anniversary Gala last month in Washington, D.C.
As part of her duties, Conner also will travel nationwide as an advocate for organizations such as the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, the National Breast Cancer Coalition and Gilda's Club. Conner recently represented the United States at the 2006 Miss Universe(R) pageant, finishing fourth runner-up. It was only the fifth time in the history of the pageant that the Miss USA winner placed fourth runner-up.
The USO has a long-standing relationship with the Miss Universe Organization. In recent years, pageant winners have traveled on overseas tours to Korea and Cuba, and domestic trips to California and Colorado.
