Extremely overjoyed with anticipation, students from Grand Prairie's Lee Middle School were chosen with a very special and honorary visit by Miss Texas 2006 last Friday, September 29, 2006, who will be speaking to 100,000 students across Texas this year in a campaign called "Texas Cares for Children."

Shilah Phillips is Miss Texas and from Plano, Texas. She entered the competition representing Frisco in the Miss Texas Pagent and plans to go on to compete in the Miss America Pagent this January.

Shilah, 24-years old, has been a vocal-music major at Collin County Community College in Plano and has even auditioned for American Idol in Los Angeles. She just finished her studies in Collin County and has recently been accepted by the University of North Texas in Denton where she will enter the Prestigious Jazz Studies Vocal Program.

Students were explained that Shilah's chosen field of study will include education in band, music, and choir.

"So am I in bear country," was the first question Shilah asked the Lee Middle School students. All replied, "yes."
