JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A 58-year-old Whitewater man is charged with stalking a 20-year-old East Troy woman who represents the state's county fairs.
Joseph G. Schraeder reportedly asked Sheri Nelson to be his "first lady" in June at the Walworth County Diary Breakfast.
The complaint says Schraeder "vehemently" volunteered to be in a milk-chugging competition Nelson coordinated and followed her down the street the next day, when she was in a parade in Mukwonago.
Schraeder was arrested yesterday and said in court he didn't understand his arrest.
He has a prior conviction for violating a restraining order and harrassment.
Nelson is a former Walworth County Fairest of the Fair and this year's Wisconsin Fairest of the Fair. The University of Wisconsin-Madison student helps promote Wisconsin's county fairs.
According to a criminal complaint, he told her was planning their wedding for a year later.
