Here she comes, Miss America Outstanding Teen 2008, to Austin.

Caitlin Brunell, a sophomore at Trinity Christian High School in Virginia, will visit several Austin schools Monday as part of her tour across the United States to promote her platform. Through literature and stories, Brunell will speak with students on the theme of "being proud of your differences." Former Austin resident and student Angela McDermott, Miss Twin Cities 2008, will serve as her hostess and guide for the day.

As Miss Virginia's Outstanding Teen, Brunell walked the runway at the third Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant in August 2007 in the Linda Chapin Theater at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Visiting Austin is one step of Brunell's journey that will take her across the country to promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, community involvement and healthy living for the nation's youth.

Through an official partnership with the US Dream Academy, Brunell will also work to improve the outlook of young students by increasing literacy. In addition, she will continue to work on her personal platform "Caitlin's Closet," a program that makes special gowns and dresses available for students who are unable to afford them.
