2008 Miss America Contestants
Do Their Part on Make a Difference Day

Iowa City, Iowa and St. Paul, Minnesota---On Saturday, October 27, as a part of Make A Difference Day, Miss Iowa Diana Reed hosted a very unique tailgate event to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network, while Miss Minnesota Jennifer Hudspeth helped disadvantaged children choose winter coats with the Salvation Army.

Diana Reed held her tailgate fundraiser prior to the start of the University of Iowa vs. Michigan State football game at Kinnick Stadium. The stadium is located across the street from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, so in addition to entertaining Hawkeye fans, Miss Iowa elevated the spirits of the children in the hospital. From 8 until 11 am, Reed and her friends operated a vendor stand to sell snacks and accepted contributions for the Children’s Miracle Network. Diana twirled fire batons to attract the crowd and she also visited with children in the hospital as part of her Make a Difference effort.

Jennifer Hudspeth spent the day helping needy children in St. Paul pick out coats for the cold Minnesota winter. Jennifer worked with the Salvation Army for her Make a Difference Day project.

Both young women were mentioned in USA Weekend’s Make A Difference Day coverage. Click on this link to read more: http://www.usaweekend.com/diffday/2007_articles/071027dayof.html.
