Miss Universe Riyo Mori said Monday she wanted to tell "my boss, Mr. Donald Trump" about how happy she was to have been selected as one of Vogue Nippon's 2007 Women of the Year.
Mori, who told the awards ceremony held at a Tokyo hotel that she also wanted to thank her departed grandmother and all those who supported her, was one of a glittering group of women the Japanese language version of the famous fashion magazine picked as the outstanding Japanese women in their fields throughout this year.
Selected along with the winner of the Trump-owned beauty pageant was a who's who of Japanese women, including actresses Anna Tsuchiya, Rei Dan and Sumiko Fujii, filmmaker Naomi Kawase and comedienne Tomochika.
Mori said her year "has gone by in a blink."
"I was delighted when I was selected as Miss Universe in Mexico in May. Since then, I've been meeting people all over the world and doing all sorts of charity work. I go to places thinking I will be there to help people, but I usually end up being helped myself because of the power of the people I meet. It tells me I've still got a long way to go," she said.
Tsuchiya, meanwhile, offered her advice on what she thinks makes "an ideal woman."
WOW! What a night! Traci and i endured 37 degree weather, we are such troopers! :) Red McCombs Toyota sponsored us with a convertible Toyota Solara and we rode in the Comfort Night Christmas Parade with the top down, and car decorated; pink Christmas tree and all! Judging was at 5:30 and the parade began at 7:00. Although sitting in the misting nearly freezing weather was tough, we survived long enough to travel through the small town of Comfort Texas for a parade route that was about 2 miles long! The streets were filled with smiling faces and little children who LOVED our big crowns and sparkling banners!
ORGANISERS of a beauty pageant in Puerto Rico are investigating a case of sabotage after a contestant's evening gowns and makeup were doused with pepper spray, causing her to break out in hives.
Ingrid Marie Rivera beat 29 pageant rivals to become the 2008 Miss Universe contestant – despite the hives.
Ms Rivera was composed while onstage before the cameras and judges, but once backstage, she needed ice packs on her face and body.
“We thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves,” said pageant spokesman Harold Rosario.
"But the second time, we knew it couldn't have been a coincidence."
Later tests revealed the presence of pepper spray.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ms Rivera’s bag containing her gowns, makeup and credit cards was also stolen.
