BEAUTY & THE BANK: Former Mrs. United States left pageant stage to take helm of five offices in Manatee County

She's a bank president now, but her résumé includes being a beauty pageant winner, most recently Mrs. United States in 2001.

Dana Opsincs, 42, a Bradenton native, is still model-perfect. Dressed in a blue suit set off with pearls, she flashes a 1,000-watt smile as she talks about her days as a pageant winner before taking over as community president for M&I Bank, overseeing five offices in Manatee County.

Her fascination with beauty pageants complimented her 20-plus-year career in banking, she said.

"I had a horrible fear of public speaking and one component of competing in a pageant is public speaking," she said.
