Crowned gets a second season?

As I was surfing the web this morning, I came upon a casting call for The CW's Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants. Even if this reality competition is not the best reality TV show on the block, it seems that The CW thinks it did good enough to potentially grant Crowned a second season. Then again, maybe the pageant show will get a second chance only because The CW is running out of new episodes for its scripted shows.

The network has yet to officially announce the renewal of the show. However, a casting call was sent yesterday to find, once again, mother and daughter teams for a second season of the series. They are looking for "gorgeous mothers and their grown up daughters to compete together as a team in a one-of-a-kind beauty pageant" and get the chance to win $100,000 prize and "a fabulous pair of tiaras." Contestants are not required to have pageant experience.

Miss France 2008 Banned From Miss Universe Pageant

PARIS - Miss France will get to keep her crown despite the racy photos of her that recently appeared in a gossip magazine.

However, organizers of the Miss France contest said Friay that 22-year-old Valerie Begue will not compete in the upcoming Miss World or Miss Universe pageants.

Begue, who won the Miss France 2008 title on Dec. 8, describes the outcome as "a compromise which satisfies all parties."

Photos published in Entrevue magazine last week included one of a bikini-clad Begue lying on a cross in a swimming pool.

Another showed her licking what appeared to be yogurt or evaporated milk.

Miss International CAUGHT!

Mexican beauty Priscila Perales, winner of the 2007 Miss International, isn’t as innocent as she looks. Ms. Perales was caught drunk driving this past week in her hometown of San Pedro. After miserably failing a breathalyzer test, Ms. Perales was ordered to pay a fine of 5.439 pesos.

Paying about $501 in U.S. dollars doesn’t cut it for me. They should have confiscated the fancy BMV she was driving, and taken her precious crown away!

Miss Illinois prepares for national exposure

ANNA - Miss Illinois Ashley Hatfield will make one more stop at her old high school before heading to Las Vegas to compete in the Miss America Pageant.

The Anna native will attend a send-off party at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, in the Anna-Jonesboro High School auditorium. The party will feature a fashion show where Hatfield will model her wardrobe and perform the song she will sing at the pageant. Anna residents and dignitaries will attend.

One of those in attendance will be her former trigonometry teacher Brett Dengeren, assistant principal at AJHS. Dengeren said Hatfield is much more than a pretty face and he is glad to see her get the attention.

"She was an excellent student," he said. "She worked very, very hard. I could tell she had a high level of excellence she held herself to."

Miss Puerto Rico Exonerated!

A few weeks ago investigators seemed to think that Miss Puerto Rico might have made up the whole "pepper spray incident" after her clothes and make-up tested negative for the substance. Miss Puerto Rico went on TV claiming she didn't make it up and that she's the victim.

After extensive testing (a bj from Miss PR) cops say they did find pepper spray on a black dress she wore. A cop spokeswhore said, "Miss Puerto Rico Universe was speaking the truth. She was being sincere about the allegations."

Police also have a suspect. The unidentified suspect was a volunteer and not another contestant. Charges against the suspect have yet to be filed.

Miss Puerto Rico will compete this July for Miss Universe.

Annette and Alana eliminated from 'Crowned' reality pageant show

Annette and Alana had no previous beauty pageant experience -- and it showed -- as the mother/daughter from Hayworth, CA became the second duo eliminated from Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants during last night's broadcast of The CW reality series.

"I'm not going to be crowned, but I feel like I'm walking away with so much more," commented Alana following the elimination.

Crowned's second episode broadcast began with the 10 remaining teams returning to the mansion following the previous de-sashing ceremony, which saw Andrea and her daughter Amanda get the boot. Several of the teams -- including Annette and Alana -- tried to come-up with new nicknames after their original nicknames were thoroughly bashed by the judges.

Mexican Beauty Queen Arrested for Drunk Driving

Former Miss Mexico and winner of the 2007 "Miss International" contest Priscila Perales was arrested yesterday in Monterrey for drunk driving when a blood alcohol test revealed she had a level of 0.9.

Perales will be hit with the largest fine possible for the offense: 20,000 pesos (about 1800 dollars), which is the highest fine for drunk drivers in Mexico.

The model and beauty queen was also among the finalists for the 2006 Miss Universe pageant.

Police: 'Miss Puerto Rico was telling the truth'

The investigation into sabotage at the Miss Puerto Rico Universe beauty pageant has found in favour of winner Ingrid Marie Rivera.

After being crowned at the pageant last month, Rivera claimed that someone, perhaps a rival contestant, had pepper-sprayed her black gown and bathing suit in an attempt to force her out of the contest.

Until now, her claims have been met with scepticism from police in San Juan, after cops failed to find any traces of the spray.

However, fresh evidence has prompted police to believe a perpetrator did in fact spray her dress - although they believe the suspect is more likely to be a pageant volunteer, rather than a fellow contestant.

First time’s a charm for victors

Two women new to the pageant experience walked away Sunday night with the Miss Kansas USA and Miss Kansas Teen USA titles.

Michelle Gillespie, 21, of Mission Hills competed as Miss Kansas City and walked away with the Miss Kansas USA 2008 title. . .

Gillespie, a senior at Southern Methodist University, said she’d only decided to enter the competition this summer. Nonetheless, she said, competing in a pageant is something she’s wanted to do for “about 10 years now."

"Once I found out that my great-great-aunt was the first Miss America, I knew this was something I had to do,” she said. “It’s in my blood.”

Gillespie will advance to the Miss USA 2008 competition, which takes place April 11 in Las Vegas, Nev.

THE DONALD BRINGS IN 2ND BEAUTY PAGEANT TELECAST

The deal is done but isn’t yet officially signed. Billionaire real-estate tycoon Donald Trump is bringing his Miss USA beauty pageant to the Planet Hollywood resort to be broadcast on NBC on April 11.

He also owns the Miss Universe pageant. Expect the legal documents to be signed right after January 1.

Donald’s partnership with NBC was extended for three-additional years after the last March 28 telecast won by Miss Tennessee USA, Rachel Smith, who on a recent Vegas visit hit our party circuit and taped an episode of Mindfreak with magician Criss Angel.

She’ll be back for the crowning of her replacement in April. Our Nevada USA winner, Helen Salas placed in the top five winners. It will be the first time the live two-hour Miss USA pageant has been telecast from Vegas—and it now becomes the second beauty battle taking up a home at the Planet Hollywood resort.

On January 26, the Miss America live telecast will broadcast in HD from the newly redecorated casino hotel. NBC says there’s been renewed interest in beauty pageants, which is borne out by increased ratings.

“Beauty pageants have been redefined by our Miss Universe organization. With each passing year our ratings continue to get better because of the intelligent and beautiful women who participate in our competitions,” said Donald who is completing construction on two ultra-luxury condo towers here on the sight of the old Frontier resort property opposite Steve Wynn’s resort.

Another CROWNED Casting Call

We're currently on a nation wide search for mothers

and their grown-up daughters (18+ years old) to compete as a team in a one-of-a-kind beauty pageant on The CW Network. Ksenia Sukhinova, a 20 years old, 178 cm lady from Tyumen was crowned Miss Russia 2008 at the Gostinom Yard, in Moscow. Ksenia is expected to compete in both the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants in 2008.

2nd RU- Vera Krasova, 20, 176 cm, from Moscow.

Beauty queen booed at pageant

A Miss Belgium beauty pageant contestant was booed when she revealed she couldn't speak Dutch during a live interview.

News Agency DPA reported Alizee Poulicek was booed by the crowd when she was asked about her hopes for the future of Flemish during the Miss Belgium 2008 beauty pageant.

"I ... I do not understand," Poulicek replied as the audience bagan booing.

Some said the incident highlighted the tensions between the French and Dutch speaking communities in Belgium.

Belgium is divided between the Flemish-speaking majority of Flanders and the French-speaking minority in Wallonia, DPA reported.

The country has been unable to form a new government since the general election six months ago, leading to speculation that Belgium could split into French- and Dutch-speaking regions.
