ANNA - Miss Illinois Ashley Hatfield will make one more stop at her old high school before heading to Las Vegas to compete in the Miss America Pageant.The Anna native will attend a send-off party at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, in the Anna-Jonesboro High School auditorium. The party will feature a fashion show where Hatfield will model her wardrobe and perform the song she will sing at the pageant. Anna residents and dignitaries will attend.
One of those in attendance will be her former trigonometry teacher Brett Dengeren, assistant principal at AJHS. Dengeren said Hatfield is much more than a pretty face and he is glad to see her get the attention.
"She was an excellent student," he said. "She worked very, very hard. I could tell she had a high level of excellence she held herself to."
