YORK -- York County Community College student Amanda Wright will compete for the title of Miss Maine USA next month.
Over the past few months, the York resident has been working hard with her pageant coach, former Miss Maine Heather Clark, to learn how to speak well, walk, make eye contact and do her hair to prepare for next month's big competition that could eventually send Wright to the Miss USA contest in June.
But today she is fund-raising to get businesses and families involved with her bid for the title. Wright has been selling ads for the pageant book, but is still seeking more support. If she wins, she said the publicity could benefit those individuals and help her make her lifelong dream come true, she said.
"It costs $600 to enter," and with the cost of her dress, coach and other expenses, it can be very expensive, she said, adding that as a student and full-time employee at the Kittery Trading Post, it is difficult for her to cover the costs.
