The reigning Miss Universe, Riyo Mori of Japan, will be coming to St. Kitts later this year. According to a press release, the 20-year-old Japanese beauty will be headlining the second annual St. Kitts Fashion Weekend, which will be held at the Marriott Events Center on 5 Oct. The contract to seal the deal was signed on 23 July between Eversley Liburd, CEO of the St. Kitts Fashion Weekend and Corinne Nicolas of Trump Model Management. Liburd said this was his way of promoting the Federation as a prime tourist destination. “Sugar is no longer king. We, as Kittitians, need to start concentrating and investing more on tourism, because tourism is the key. People these days are concentrating more on the Caribbean instead of Europe and the Middle East. St. Kitts is only three or four hours away from the US. With bringing Miss Universe, it’s like using one stone to kill two birds – to boost my show and to get media coverage for St. Kitts. People will know and learn about St. Kitts,” Liburd told the SUN. |
