On June 6th I had the special opportunity to spend the afternoon on the military base of Fort Sam Houston. Myself and several of my pageant sisters enjoyed lunch in the commissary and then we were off to meet and greet the men and women of the US Army. It’s during this time that we thank them for their bravery, skills, heart and soul for defending our country. Without these special individuals we would not have the safety, security and freedom we all enjoy as American citizens. During our visit we also got to experience and see the actual training the soldiers receive. We took off our pageant sashes, laid low on the ground and learned how to fire an M16A2 rifle in a virtual reality firing center! The feel, weight and firing of the rifles were so real except there were no bullets. We experienced the actual training US Army Soldiers receive including real life scenarios within the virtual reality center that train US Army Soldiers to evaluate the situation and the enemy; and know when and where to fire their weapons. This experience was a dose of reality for me; and very eye opening to what our troops experience daily on the battle front. Our next stop was the medical battalion training center. We felt like we were in a different world as we walked through a mock up of a Middle Eastern market square that had just been attacked by a car bomb. Victims/medical training mannequins lay wounded on the ground waiting for the medical attention of a soldier. The mannequins would breathe, bleed and react according the actions of the soldier treating them! It was all so amazing!Beauties of America Pageant - Official Blogspot: Traci Quinones, Beauties of America’s 30s – Spends the Day with the US Army at Fort Sam Houston
I encourage everyone to take the time to thank our military and get to know force that protects our country.
