Miss America finishers to perform in Muskegon

MUSKEGON -- Ten of the top Miss America finishers and 18 Miss Michigan contestants, former titleholders and teen winners return to the Frauenthal Theater, site of the annual state pageant, to honor the new Miss America, Kirsten Haglund, one of our own.

Friday's contestant showcase at 7 p.m. will be a fast-paced production -- full of pageantry, fanfare and fantastic talent. Themed "Dreams Come True," the two-and-a-half hour show will involve a cast and crew of 130 people, including performances by Haglund with her father and brother, said Producer Dori Matkowski of Walled Lake.

Matkowski, a former Miss Farmington (now Oakland County), has known Haglund since she was a young girl and asked to produce her homecoming show. Matkowski also owns Dance Dynamics Performing Arts Center in Walled Lake and came to know Haglund through Oakland County's pageant program. Her children also attended Walled Lake Western High School with Haglund and her brother, Lars.

Haglund, 19, of Farmington Hills, will arrive at the theater via a horse-drawn carriage.
