About 3 p.m. next Thursday, Jan. 17, 52 gorgeous girls, all hoping to win the Miss America pageant, will arrive at the Planet Hollywood to HQ there for ten-days. They’ll compete on Saturday January 26—and this year there’s a contest within a contest.
First though, I can let you in on this year’s national judges: a strikingly diverse group of seven personalities, including a legendary Olympic athlete, an edgy fashion designer, Hollywood’s hottest casting director, the editor of a trendy magazine, and one of CNN’s most popular newscasters. Their task is to evaluate the contestants right from the preliminaries through to the final night of competition, which will broadcast live from Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. for the time-zone change back east at 8 p.m. live on cable TV’s Learning Channel. For the first time this year, America will also get to play judge in Miss America—America’s Choice is an online competition designed to choose the 16th finalist.
The judges are comprised of experts in each of the fields that a young woman must excel in order to be named Miss America—she must be beautiful, talented, intelligent and well-spoken, a leader, have a commitment to her community, be contemporary in her style and fashion, a relatable and individual “it girl” who can connect with today’s modern woman, as well as being physically fit.
