On Wednesday, May 30, Gov. Brad Henry presented Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson with a replica of new highway signs honoring Lauren and recognizing Lawton as her hometown.
“Lauren’s accomplishment meant bringing the Miss America crown to Oklahoma for the second consecutive year, and that is nothing short of phenomenal. Her crowning has given us one more reason to celebrate in the year of our centennial,” Gov. Henry said. “Lauren is representative of everything that is great about our state; she is kind, compassionate, beautiful and talented—and she is an outstanding ambassador for our state.”
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will place four signs—17 feet wide by 7 feet high and reading “Lawton—Home of Lauren Nelson Miss America 2007”—on highways entering Lawton. The signs will be placed on northbound and southbound Interstate 44, westbound State Highway 7 and eastbound State Highway 62.
“It’s an honor to represent the state of Oklahoma as Miss America and it’s a pleasure to be home,” Lauren said. “I’m excited to see the highway signs placed around my hometown of Lawton and to have the opportunity to meet with Governor Henry.”
