Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/WILLIAM MOORE Dilynn Dodd of Springdale is making the transition from rodeo queen to barrel racer. Dodd, who was Miss Rodeo Arkansas 2008, is ranked 29th on the Women's Professional Association Rookie of the Year list.
SPRINGDALE - There aren't a whole lot of former queens competing on the professional rodeo circuit, but that's all Dilynn Dodd ever dreamed of doing.
Dodd, of Springdale, knows people at the Rodeo of the Ozarks remember her best for her reign as Miss Rodeo Arkansas 2008, but she is trying to forge a new career as a professional barrel racer. Dodd turned professional earlier this year and has earned nearly $1,500 to rank 29th on the Women's Professional Rodeo Association Rookie of the Year list.
"There's no swimsuit competition, and our talent is horsemanship instead of singing, dancing or playing the piano," Dodd said. "I only have one talent, and that's rodeo. I can't rodeo on stage."
