Houston resident Carol Gibson crowned Mrs. Mississippi America

Houston resident Carol Gibson was crowned Mrs. Mississippi America Saturday night at Southaven pageant.

"It's overwhelming right now, but it's a great opportunity," Gibson, 31, said during a Monday evening phone interview.

"It's an opportunity for me to continue my advocacy of breast cancer awareness support," she said. "It's a honor to be able to represent the married women of Mississippi, too."

Gibson, a dental hygienist, owns Annie's Closet, a Houston formal-wear boutique. She and her husband, Lane, have two children, Annie Grace, 5, and 3-year-old Hastings.

Part of Gibson's $10,000 prize package includes a trip to the Mrs. America beauty pageant in Tucson, Ariz. The winner will be crowned Sept. 5.

Mrs. America competes in the Mrs. World pageant.
