TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Makenna Smith, a 23-year-old nursing graduate student at Oklahoma City University, is crowned as Miss Oklahoma tonight.
Smith, who participated in the state pageant as Miss Oklahoma City University, will receive a $16,000 scholarship and represent Oklahoma in the Miss America pageant next January.
The previous two women named Miss Oklahoma went on to become Miss America: Jennifer Berry of Tulsa in 2005 and Lauren Nelson of Lawton in 2006.
Oklahoma became the first state to produce back-to-back Miss America winners since Mississippi did it in 1959 and 1960. No state has produced three consecutive Miss America winners.
