Miss Nevada USA Won't Get Her Tiara Back

(AP) Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees is not getting her tiara back after losing it because she appeared in a slew of prurient pictures _ and that's final, pageant officials said Friday in response to speculation stirred up by pageant co-owner Donald Trump.

"The Miss Universe Organization has thoroughly considered the request of Ms. Katie Rees to be reinstated as Miss Nevada USA 2007," Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, said in a statement released to The Associated Press. "In light of the serious nature of the circumstances, there is no recourse but to stand by our decision."

Trump, who owns the Miss Universe Organization and Miss USA with NBC, told the television show "Extra" in a segment broadcast Thursday that he was looking at the Dec. 21 decision to fire Rees, fueling buzz that the beauty queen might be reinstated.

Rees was stripped of her title after racy photos of her appeared on the Internet. Some of the photos showed Rees, 22, kissing other young women, exposing one of her breasts and pulling down her pants to show her thong underwear at a party in Tampa, Fla.

Prince Harry, Spike Lee, Miss USA & Hartnett

Compiled by Greg Henry

Prince Harry missed spending Christmas with his girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, because he was on military duty. But Harry, 22, has planned a romantic getaway on the island of Bazaruto just off the coast of Mozambique in Africa, the London Evening-Standard reported. The couple have enjoyed several visits to the island. This could be his last visit before Harry is deployed to Iraq.

. . .

Miss USA Tara Conner isn't exactly suffering in her 28-day rehab stay. The New York Daily News reported Conner is detoxing after her hard-partying days at the 110-acre Caron Foundation rehab center in Wernersville, Pa., 70 miles outside of Philadelphia. Miss USA pageant backer Donald Trump may be the one footing the tab for Conner's treatment, reportedly costing $24,000. Conner's routine includes chores, addiction education and group sessions. She starts her day at 6:30 a.m. and has an 11 p.m. bedtime. Conner nearly lost her Miss USA crown after many well-chronicled tales of underaged drinking exploits at Chelsea clubs in New York. Conner's family in Kentucky have been encouraged to visit her after her first week in the rehab center.

Katie Rees Nude Photo Shoot Directed by Miss USA Nevada

By Angela Carson
Dec 28, 2006

Former Miss USA Nevada Katie Rees asked for a second chance and a chance to keep her crown after several photos revealed that she spent at least one wild night with friends 'performing' for the cameras with both men and women alike.

The sexy would be beauty queen tried to play it off as a wild photo shoot and her attorney even mentioned that a lawsuit may be on its way, and that the photographer should not have released the photos.

***

But the photographer has revealed to entertainment web site Splash News Online that Katie Rees was actually directing the photo shoot. "She kept telling me how to shoot the pictures," said the photographer.

"The raunchy sex acts were her friends' ideas. Katie and I traveled in the same social circles back then. One of the girls had just had a boob job and they said come outside and take snaps and they just got raunchier and raunchier. Everyone was drinking and they all knew I had a camera with a big flash. They were orchestrating the shoot and loved every minute."

Why Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees Taking Nude Photos May Have Been a Great Career Move

Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees lost her crown over nude photosCan you name Miss Nevada USA 2005. How about 2004? Now tell me, who is was Miss Nevada 2007? Exactly! Katie Rees (seen here with her successor Helen Salas). And why do you know her name? Because Katie Rees took nude photos before she won her crown. And while she has since been stripped of her beauty queen title, her freak flag is flying high, which may end up being better than being Miss Nevada or, had she competed in other beauty contests, one day becoming Miss America.

Miss Missouri set for Vegas

MU student seeking Miss America crown.

Katie Ferrell hopes the judges and America look beyond the makeup and high heels next month to see the Sarah French she knows - a "fun, normal, down-to-earth girl."

French

"When I first met her, I thought she was an alien," admitted Ferrell, a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia. "I was like, ‘She can’t be normal. She’s superhuman, so beautiful.’ Then you get to know her; she’s the nicest human being on the face of the planet."

French, 21, will represent Missouri when Country Music Television hosts the 86th annual Miss America pageant on Jan. 29 in Las Vegas. She leaves for Nevada on Jan. 19 to spend a week rehearsing for the live televised pageant.

Until then, the MU broadcast journalism student-turned-Miss Missouri is balancing family time, scheduled appearances and last-minute preparations.

Dethroned Miss Nevada USA gives public apology

CLEARWATER - The dethroned and disgraced beauty queen emerged from seclusion Saturday and apologized for racy photos of her that appeared on the Internet.

And her attorney said he has asked that the former Miss Nevada USA receive a second chance at her crown.

In her first public comments since being stripped of her title on Thursday, the former Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees, 22, told a dozen reporters she takes full responsibility for the photographs - "an isolated incident during my teenage years."

"This incident does not reflect who I am or who I plan to be," said Rees, reading from a prepared statement during a press conference at the Clearwater Marriott. "I am so sorry this happened.

"So many of us don't realize how our actions, even one night of poor judgment, can affect the rest of our lives."

Rees was one of three beauty contestants caught red-faced last week.

Miss Fortune

Beauty queens are shaky on their thrones; but true beauty isn't subject to scandal

IT'S BEEN a bad month for beauty queens. The reigning Miss USA, Tara Conner, barely held onto her tiara when her partying and underage drinking caught up with her. Fortunately for her, pageant co-owner Donald Trump declared her a "good person" and decided to give her another chance. She spent Christmas in rehab for drug and alcohol abuse.

Miss Nevada, Katie Rees, wasn't so lucky. Five-year-old Internet pictures of her kissing other girls, baring a breast, and exposing her thong underwear were enough to get her kicked off her throne. And then there's Miss Teen USA, Katie Blair. Mothers Against Drunk Driving put her on their naughty list for her hard partying and removed its support from her.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Miss Rhode Island is spreading her environmental message across the state.

She recently explained to students at Bayview Academy in East Providence how air pollution can cause climate change by trapping sunlight and can lead to other problems, including rising ocean levels, severe storms and economic instability.

She discussed ways to curb climate change, like carpooling and preserving natural resources. Rogers also told the students about the health dangers of smoking. Rogers competes in the Miss America contest next month in Las Vegas.

Miss USA Sex & Drug Scandal: Tara Conner Buzz a Gift for Pageant

By Angela Carson
Dec 26, 2006

The week before many Americans celebrate Christmas fingers were typing and searching for anything to do with Miss USA Tara Conner. The blonde beauty came from a one stoplight town in small town Kentucky, won the national crown and then hit New York City with what sounds like a vengeance. Unfortunately for the Kentucky native, folks took notice.

Miss USA Sex & Drug Scandal: Tara Conner Buzz a Gift for Pageant
Miss USA Sex & Drug Scandal: Tara Conner Buzz a Gift for Pageant

Rumors and reports soon hit Gotham and of tales of sex and drug use and it appeared that pageant owner Donald Trump might just snatch her tiara from her golden locks.

***

But Trump allowed the pint-sized Miss USA to continue, if she would check into rehab. tears flowed at a press conference and it was a christmas miracle. Reports are that she is nestled in her rehab bed now, and then the scandal hit with even more fervor late last week.

Loud mouth talk show host Rosie O'Donnell decided to rip the beauty queen, and added in some few choice shots at Donald Trump and the battle of the blabbermouths hit cable and radio talk shows with Trump slapping back at Rosie with everything.

Donald Trump was everywhere, and with that, the Miss USA contest generated lots of publicity.

So - what does all of this equal? A holiday gift for the Miss USA pageant. It is now front and center in the world of beauty pageants as sex and scandal sells. Add to that some Miss USA Nevada candidate named Katie Rees was spotted in photos in some very compromising positions, and the buzz continued into the Holiday weekend.

High Times Magazine Invites Miss USA Tara Conner To Jamaica

By Mitch Marconi
Dec 26, 2006

Miss USA Tara Conner hit the headlines last week after a string of wild antics in New York bars. Donald Trump decided to give her a second chance.

However if it doesn't work out, she's got two gigs lined up straightaway. Conner was offered a big money deal from Penthouse Magazine, one of the larger of the 'trashier' mens mags.

According to Page Six, High Times magazine sent an invite to the troubled Conner, whose drug problems almost led to her being dethroned, to participate in the Miss High Times pageant in Negril, Jamaica.

Miss USA Contestant Katie Rees Nude Flashing 'Nothing New'

By Staff
Dec 23, 2006

Former Miss USA contestant, Katie Rees - the now former Miss Nevada USA, said yesterday that her breast-licking, panty-flashing pictures online were just a youthful mistake - but a pal who was a witness to the display said it wasn't the first time.

"I had seen her doing similar things before," the friend told the New York Daily News about the March 2004 night when Rees' naughtiness was caught on camera. "It was not unusual for her. She was always out drinking with friends and getting wild."

Commentary: Trump's decision to keep Miss USA was the wrong one

Monday, December 25, 2006 By LaMont Jones, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Last week was a bad one for the Miss USA Organization, which was rocked by scandal at almost all levels.

Rick Maiman, Associated Press
YOU'RE NOT FIRED: Donald Trump said last week that he would allow Miss USA Tara Conner to keep her title.
Click photo for larger image.
First, Miss USA Tara Conner was headed to rehab after there were reports that she engaged in some bad-girl behavior -- including underage drinking and allegations of drug use and lewd behavior. But she'll be able to keep her title and the crown.

Two days later, Katie Rees, Miss Nevada USA 2007, was stripped of her title on Thursday after raunchy photos of her surfaced on the Internet.

And Mothers Against Drunk Driving severed its relationship with reigning Miss Teen USA Katie Blair after she allegedly engaged in unladylike behavior while partying with Ms. Conner.

The Miss Teen USA organization said it would not ask Miss Blair to hand over her tiara because there is no proof of wrongdoing.

Having grown up in Kentucky, I was somewhat proud to watch Ms. Connor, a native of Russell Springs, get crowned Miss USA 2006 in April.

She was the first Miss Kentucky to ever capture the title. And although she wasn't my pick, I figured any of the finalists would represent the state well.

Ms. Conner, who in July placed in the top five in Miss Universe, said winning Miss USA was a dream come true. And, for now, it seems she'll be able to hold onto that dream.

Donald Trump, who owns the pageant, surprised many last week with his announcement that Ms. Conner would get "a second chance." She will retain the coveted title and the Mikimoto pearl tiara that came with it.

A brief statement issued by Mr. Trump and posted on missusa.com after his news conference said that Ms. Conner's Miss USA duties "will be limited as she receives the help she needs during this personal time," and she "will continue her responsibilities at the appropriate time."

This makes little sense when the pageant's first runner-up, Miss California Tamiko Nash, is charged with assuming the title if Ms. Conner "for some reason cannot fulfill her responsibilities."

It's hard to imagine how Ms. Conner can fulfill her responsibilities, which include extensive travel and appearances, while in rehab.

Miss USA Enters Rehab in Pennsylvania

Troubled Miss USA Tara Conner checked into a rehab facility in Pennsylvania yesterday, just days after pageant boss Donald Trump allowed her to keep her title.

Conner is expected to stay at the facility for three weeks.

On Tuesday, Trump allowed her to keep her title, despite allegations of drug and alcohol abuse, indiscretions with men and her apparent lack of reliability when it came to showing up for her official duties.

Trump said at the press conference on Tuesday, "I've always been a believer in second chances. Tara is a good person. Tara has tried hard. Tara is going to be given a second chance."

Conner, who turned 21 on Monday, admitted to drinking alcohol while underage and tearfully apologized for her behavior.

She said yesterday, "I wouldn't say that I'm an alcoholic. I think that would be pushing the envelope."

Trump says he plans to have Conner take regular drug tests and that her ordeal could actually help others in the same situation.

He tells the New York's Daily News, "I don't think she's denying she is an alcoholic. She can be a great example for troubled people -- and she's troubled."

MIAMI - The former Miss Nevada USA, dethroned over raunchy photos posted online, apologized yesterday as her lawyer pleaded for the pageant queen to be given a second chance.

Katie Rees, who appeared in photos revealing a breast, exposing her thong underwear and kissing other young women at a party in Tampa, said her behavior was an “isolated incident.”

“I am so sorry this happened,” she said at a news conference in Clearwater, reading a prepared statement. “So many of us don’t realize how our actions, even one night of poor judgment, can affect the rest of our lives.”

Her lawyer, Mario E. Torres III of Tampa, asked that Miss Universe Organization co-owner Donald Trump grant Rees the same opportunity he gave Miss USA Tara Conner, who was allowed to keep her tiara after she tearfully admitted drinking as a minor at New York nightclubs.

A Miss Universe spokeswoman has said organization president Paula Shugart made the decision to strip Rees of her title and Trump supported it. An e-mail sent to a secretary for Trump was not immediately answered yesterday.

Globalbeauties has been declaring its rankings annually since 2003, considering the success levels of the nations and territories that participate in the world’s beauty contests.

However, the ranking bases only on the result of five most famous pageants, including the Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Earth and Miss Tourism Queen International. The position of the countries and territories in the map of beauties change regularly based on the latest results of the beauty pageants.

According to Globalbeauties, 101 countries and nations have entered their names in at least one of the five mentioned pageants, while other countries have never seen their girls win any prizes in the international beauty contests.

Gormley says gut Hall, use space for $3B. casino

By PETE McALEER Statehouse Bureau, (609) 292-4935
Published: Saturday, December 23, 2006
ATLANTIC CITY — Boardwalk Hall, one of the city's iconic buildings, can be converted into a casino hotel without losing its historic value, state Sen. Bill Gormley said Friday.

Gormley, R-Atlantic, is pushing the idea of preserving the facade of the 77-year old structure as well as its 151-foot roof and its historic organ to make room for a new $3 billion casino hotel. The West Hall, an annex built in the 1970s, would be demolished.

“You could use the building as a catalyst for economic revival without turning our back on history,” Gormley said, comparing the idea to the renovation of Union Station in Washington, D.C.

Casino moguls Steve Wynn and Donald Trump have reportedly discussed the idea of using Boardwalk Hall as a part of the site for a new casino hotel. The idea sparked letters of protest and prompted Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson — who oversees the authority that owns the hall — to announce that he would oppose any effort to raze the building.

Once the site of the Miss America Pageant, Boardwalk Hall is on the National Register of Historic Places, giving it some protection from demolition. There was talk of razing the hall years ago before a $90 million renovation, completed in 2001, converted the crumbling building into a 14,000-seat sports and entertainment arena.

Trump and Rosie wage war of words over Miss USA

Donald Trump responds to Rosie O'Donnell, and had equally harsh words.

Updated Thu. Dec. 21 2006 11:19 AM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell have gotten personal, lobbing a barrage of increasingly nasty insults at each other stemming from a dispute over the Miss USA scandal.

Trump recently gave a second chance to Miss USA Tara Conner, allowing her to keep her crown following a wave of reports that she had taken part in underage drinking.

He made the announcement at a news conference with Conner, where she tearfully admitted drinking as a minor at New York nightclubs. She turned 21 a day before the news conference.

Speaking Wednesday on "The View," which airs on CTV and which O'Donnell co-hosts, she said the event was a publicity stunt that annoyed her "on a multitude of levels."

She said Trump is in no position to be acting as a moral compass for America's youth.

"There he is, hair looping, going everyone, everyone deserves a second chance," she said. "He's the moral authority? Left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair. Had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America," she said to roars of audience laughter. "Donald, sit and spin, my friend."

Rosie also said she expected Trump to sue her but added "he'll probably be bankrupt by that time so I won't have to worry."

Trump, not known for keeping his opinions to himself either, issued an equally stinging response on the television entertainment show "The Insider."

He slammed everything from her looks to her former talk show and magazine, and countered her claims that he has gone bankrupt.

"Rosie attacks me personally? I know her fairly well because her show failed. She didn't retire. She didn't get the ratings! Her magazine called `Rosie' was a total disaster," he said.

"She's out of her mind. I will probably sue Rosie for a number of reasons. I'm worth a lot of money. She doesn't tell the facts," he added.

Trump, a real-estate mogul, star of "The Apprentice" reality show and co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization went so far as to attack O'Donnell's appearance, saying "she looks like a slob" and describing her as "basically a disaster."

He denied Rosie's claim that he has experienced financial woes.

"I never went bankrupt, but she said I went bankrupt. So probably I'll sue her because it would be fun. I'd like to take some money out of her fat-ass pockets," he told "The Insider."

He also threatened to send one of his friends to pick up Rosie's wife Kelli.

REVEALED! THE DISHY, SCANDALOUS DETAILS BEHIND THE DONALD-MISS USA SCANDAL!

Heidi Bressler, the stunning contestant in the first season of Donald Trump's reality TV show The Apprentice who was fired by Trump, but who is now Trump magazine's National Accounts Director, tells Star that Trump didn't dethrone scandal-plagued Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner for two reasons: The on-going drama is fantastic publicity for the sixth season of The Apprentice, which debuts on NBC in just a few weeks, on Jan. 7. Plus, he's a good-natured guy — especially when a gorgeous woman is involved.

"He's a good guy," Heidi, who's been making the rounds on this week's talks shows such as MSNBC's Scarborough Country, tells Star. "I do believe he does feel bad for her. He'll fire you if you're disloyal or have sticky fingers, and she didn't do any of the above."

While some observers may roll their eyes at the notion that the real estate mogul is a softie — think boardroom firings on The Apprentice — Heidi says it's a different story when it comes to sexy, stunning women. "He has a hard time being mean to a pretty girl," she says. "All Tara would have to do is bat her eyelashes!"

RESULT: Miss Virginia USA wants to work in entertainment

Gene Dalton | The Roanoke Times

Amber Copley.

Then: Copley took a semester off college to seek to end a three-decade drought for Virginia in the Miss USA contest.

Now: The 21-year-old Abingdon native did not make the pageant's top 15, but she did make connections at the event which have served her well pursuing a career in modeling. Copley said she was on the verge of signing with the Wilhelmina modeling agency's Richmond franchise.

"I'm really excited about it," she said. "It's one step closer to what I want to do."

Copley expects to graduate with a communications degree in 2008. She might go into public relations but said working in the entertainment business excites her the most.

The November death of Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston from anorexia has renewed talk in the fashion industry about the effects of holding up ultra-thin models as a standard of beauty. Copley referred to that incident in saying she hopes to challenge an unrealistic, if not dangerous, aesthetic.

She wears a size 6 and wants to be a counter example "for the little girls with magazines sitting at home looking at women with bones sticking out of them."

Copley said she will focus on commercial modeling and is not tall enough for the runway.

"I'm 5-foot-6 1/2," she said. "Leave the half on there. It's important in this industry."
