Miss Rhode Island has an environmental message

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Miss Rhode Island is spreading her environmental message across the state.

Allison Rogers is touring schools to stop global warming through education. She recently explained to students at Bayview Academy in East Providence how air pollution can cause climate change by trapping sunlight and can lead to other problems, including rising ocean levels, severe storms and economic instability.

She discussed ways to curb climate change, like carpooling and preserving natural resources. Rogers also told the students about the health dangers of smoking. Rogers competes in the Miss America contest next month in Las Vegas.
