Mrs Kenya: A unique beauty pageant for married women

By Evelyne Ogutu

Mrs Kenya, Caroline Wangare Verkaik,

Are you happily married and aged under 65? Can you stand on a stage and give reasons why you love your husband? Can you also outline what you believe are your major successes in whatever you do, be it your job, business or simply being a housewife?

If you meet these criteria, you might be the person being sought to strut the catwalk in a unique pageant.

The event is to pick Mrs Kenya, who will represent the country in the Mrs World pageant to be held in Moscow, Russia, next year.

What is more interesting is that there is a current holder of the Mrs World-Kenyan chapter title, Mrs Caroline Wangare Verkaik, aged 36.

Event characterised by glitter and glitz

Wangare took part in the pageant in Russia last year and emerged the third overall winner.

What might surprise you more is that the breathtaking pageant, which was started in the US, has been in existence for 30 years.

The Kenyan chapter is set to be launched next February in Nairobi.

And if you think the pageant is for dull shapeless women looking for temporary relief from their boring married lives, you cannot be further from the truth.

The Mrs World pageant is a splendid event characterised by the glitter and glitz found in any other beauty event.
