Wellington, April 21 (JY&A Media) Paraparaumu-born Samantha Powell, 20, representing Horowhenua, is the newly crowned Miss Universe New Zealand 2008 in a ceremony at the Novotel Ellerslie, near Auckland City. Hannah Matthews of Auckland, Miss Masport, is runner-up, followed by Rhonda Grant, Miss TR Designs of Palmerston North.
Miss Peru, Silvia Cornejo, bested 111 beauties around the world in winning the 2008 Miss Tourism Queen International. Silvia is the first woman from the American continent to win the title.
The 1st runner-up was the hometown girl, Miss China, Tong He; Miss Canada, Sahar Biniaz, was the 2nd runner-up; Miss Montenegro, Dasa Zivkovic, was the third runner-up; and finally, Miss Japan, Akemi Fukumura, was the 4th runner-up.

I remember the morning of Sadie's accident in Jan. 2007 just two months after she received her license. My in-laws attend Hulls Grove Baptist Church. This is the "Sadie" that I have talked about to so many.
On Friday, our hometown newspaper ran this story, the same day my grandfather's obituary was in the paper. Through it all, our God is so great! The Redding family continues to bring comfort to all they meet. My mother-in-law told me at the beginning of the week that the story about Sadie would be in Friday's paper. At that time I had no idea my grandfather's obituary would also be in the same paper. Mark Redding, Sadie's father and pastor at Hulls Grove Baptist Church, makes a comment that you will read in the article, “We didn’t lose our daughter. I don’t like the long vacation she’ll be on before we can see her again, but we’ll see her again.” Mark is so right! As believers, this is what we should focus on...life eternal!

Today was a blast!! Yes, I am going crazy! YES, I just got to appear on Monday on CBS 6-Good Morning Virginia, and YES, We are in the final preparation stages for the HUGE Southern Women's Show, Safe Family Fun in the Sun '08, 3 day Fashion show with Mario Lopez in attendance reaching over 18,000 people!!
However, today I took time out to go to Radio Disney to talk to them about the EPA Sunwise program, fun sun safety for kids! It is a part of their Kids Concerns shows. I was so honored and thrilled to be there. It was truly such a delight! I had such a GREAT, GREAT time!!! Thank you Kristin for helping make this happen and to Adam B the best Radio Disney DJ I ever met!!

Dear State Executive Directors,
I wanted to take a moment to provide you with some information and updates from the National Office.
Currently, we are still in negotiations with Planet Hollywood for Miss America 2009 to return to Las Vegas. We will continue to keep you well informed of our progress and once finalized, will announce the partnership and the date for our 2009 Pageant!
As you may have read from some of the national news stories, the ratings are out on The Miss USA Pageant that was televised on NBC last Friday night. And, although we are so sorry to see that Miss USA’s ratings declined by over 2 million viewers, it is important to recognize that our telecast of The Miss America 2008 Pageant set a new record and we continue to be moving on an upward trend!
While The Miss USA Pageant lost 2 million viewers and their ratings were at an all time low – Miss America gained one million new viewers with our Pageant and the introduction of our new Reality Show on TLC!
We are excited about the positive direction we are creating with the help and support of each one of you. Miss America continues to be the premiere Pageant and the Organization that offers contestants the opportunity to aspire to be a part of an amazing American tradition. While Miss USA continues to lose viewers, Miss America is growing and gaining viewers.
On a closing note, we are continuing to finalize plans for our National Workshop in August, so please remember to sign up if you haven’t already; our space is limited and we have had a wonderful response so far.Thank you for your continued support. We are so proud of the work you are doing that makes us #1!

Miss Rio Grande do Sul, Natália Anderle was crowned Miss Brazil Universe 2008 at the event held in the Citibank Hall, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Vanessa Vidal, a deaf candidate from Ceara, was named as the 1st runner-up and will compete in Miss International Beauty Pageant 2008 to be held in Macau. The winners will also have the chance to get to travel Brazil as the pageant promote its essence.
