SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) - The first Miss America from Indiana is making a whirlwind tour of her home state.
One of Katie Stam's first stops Wednesday was the high school in her hometown of Seymour, about 60 miles south of Indianapolis. She drew cheers as she implored students to work hard and get involved in their communities.
It's Stam's first visit to the state since the 22-year-old won the Miss America title Jan. 24 in Las Vegas.
Stam plans to attend a reception Thursday at the University of Indianapolis, where she's expected to meet with officials about completing her bachelor's degree in communication.
