Introducing Miss Mass USA . . .

To many Saugonians, Despina Delios is known as the young waitress/cashier who worked at Kane’s Donut Shop in the prime of her teenage years from 12-18. They also know her as the daughter of Stephen Delios and the granddaughter of Kay and Peter Delios, the family that owns the Lincoln Avenue donut shop.

Shortly after her big win last month, Delios visited the donut shop recently wearing her sash and tiara and received hearty congratulations from many of the customers who already knew her from her high school days when she worked at the shop.

Delios beat the odds to earn the crown and sash at the recent contest in Quincy. It was her first-ever beauty pageant, and she faced off against women who had been competing in such beauty events for most of their lives.

However, Stephen Delios said there was something special about his daughter that made her stand out from the rest of the field. He could hardly believe his eyes as she kept making the cuts, from 500 to 58, then down to 12 and ultimately five finalists.

“It’s amazing to think that she won out of the 500 beautiful young women who competed,” beamed Stephen Delios. “As a father, I feel very proud. I mean, my baby won the whole thing.”

A current resident of Lynn, the 22-year-old is finishing up her last course in business marketing at North Shore Community College and has been working as a waitress in Charlestown for the past five years.
