Ask any girl and she is bound to tell you that getting all dressed up in a gorgeous gown and having her hair styled in a lovely fashion is an enjoyable experience.

Devon Ward, 16, has been dressed up for the past 16 years. The 2008-2009 Fairest of the Fair queen has been participating in beauty pageants since she was a toddler.

"My mom [Rita Ward] was the one who got me into pageants, but I've really grown to love it ... I just love getting all dressed up," said Devon, a Shelbyville Central High School student.

Ward's determination and love of pageantry has paid off in a huge way. She will be competing in the Fairest of the Fairs state competition in Nashville this weekend.

"I'm very excited ... The last time I went just to watch and see what goes on, and there were around 50 girls there competing," said Ward. "It's definitely going to be a tough competition."
