The 23-year-old musical student Miriam Leone from Acireale (Catania) was crowned Miss Italy on the 70th anniversary ceremony of Miss Italy 2008 contest held in Salsomaggiore Terme on September 14, 2008. Unlike other winners in other countries, Miriam Leone is not representing Italy in international beauty pageant. Representatives of Italy to Miss Universe and Miss World are chosen from different beauty contests, Miss Universo Italia and Miss Mondo Italia, respectively.
