RP's bet to Ms. World 2008 Janina San Miguel quits | ABS-CBN News Online Beta

The Philippines' controversial representative to the 2008 Miss World beauty pageant, Janina San Miguel, has resigned, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BCPI) said late Monday.

San Miguel won the Binibining Pilipinas Ms. World despite having difficulty answering a judge's question in English.

"Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) regrets to announce that Ms. Janina San Miguel has resigned as official representative to the 2008 Miss World beauty pageant," the firm said in a brief statement released by Belle Baldoza, public relations officer of the Araneta Group.

"The untimely demise of her grandfather, among other personal reasons, has caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title," the BPCI said.

Miss North Carolina U.S. Beauties Phaedra Flowers and Mrs. North Carolina U.S. Beauties Sharon Miller Ashley

The *Miss *Mrs. North Carolina U.S. Beauties was held recently in Raleigh North Carolina. Shawna Goins who is the North Carolina U.S. Beauties State Director held a beautiful state pageant with many in attendance. Her winners are Miss North Carolina U.S. Beauties Phaedra Flowers and Mrs. North Carolina U.S. Beauties Sharon Miller Ashley. They will compete in the *Miss *Mrs. U.S. Beauties State Pageant July 10,11,12 2009 in Schaumburg Illinois.

Shawna is accepting applications for the Sept 2009 North Carolina State Pageant which will be held next Sept 2009. You can apply at www.ncbeauties.com

After the North Carolina U.S. Beauties U.S. Beauties State Pageant was over one of the judges wrote a beautiful article about the North Carolina U.S. Beauties State Pageant. There hasn't been an article written about pageantry like this one in a very long time. Congratulations State Director Shawna and all contestants who competed in the North Carolina U.S. Beauties State Pageant.

Mrs. California U.S. Beauties Shawna Greene-Jasper and Mrs. West Coast U.S. Beauties Michelle Vatcher

The *Miss *Mrs. U.S. Beauties National Pageant recently hosted a California U.S. Beauties Crowning Ceremony. Mrs. California U.S. Beauties Shawna Greene-Jasper and Mrs. West Coast U.S. Beauties Michelle Vatcher were treated to a luncheon, congratulations cake, flowers and gifts. Their husbands placed a state crown and banner on their wife's and close family & friends were in attendance to celebrate the ladies titles. The *Miss *Mrs. U.S. Beauties National Pageant will host a crowning luncheon for all ladies who will represent their state or regional title at the July 2009 National Pageant but didn't win a state pageant since there wasn't a state pageant for them to compete in. The U.S. Beauties Pageant Organization feels that by hosting a crowning ceremony luncheon all at large contestants will feel just as important as those who won their state pageant. This will be done for all states without a state pageant director.

Safety fears cancel Miss Nepal beauty pageant - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Posted 3 hours 18 minutes ago

The organisers of the beauty pageant, Miss Nepal, have had to cancel it because of concerns about safety.

There had been opposition to the event from the women's wing of the ruling Maoist party.

They say Miss Nepal discriminates against certain ethnic groups as well as shorter and darker-skinned women.

The organisers say the contest which should have gone ahead in Kathmandu this weekend is open to all.

Before she left, I asked Miss Ohio, Karissa Martin, to let me know if they have any public events here in LA and I'd try to attend, but I highly doubt they will. Rumor has it these poor girls are stripped of their cell phones and computers the entire time

Sarah Palin Swimsuit Beauty Pageant Footage (Video) » Right Celebrity

Here is the actual footage of Sarah Palin modeling a swimsuit in the Miss Alaska Beauty pageant. Yes, this swimsuit video is actually real and not photoshopped. See the video here.

Sarah Palin Swimsuit Video

We all know that Sarah Palin was first runner up in the 1984 Miss Alaska Beauty Pageant. She was Sarah Heath at that time. We’ve heard her talk about it and mention how it felt to her to have to stand on the stage and pose in a swimsuit. But where, oh where, were the videos of those beauty pageant days?

Well, it seems some guy up in Alaska had an old VHS tape of the pageant and …. you guessed it …. he saw an opportunity to digitize those tapes, upload them to YouTube and give the world the opportunity to see our next Vice President’s swimsuit beauty pageant footage. Its not an itsy bitsy bikini, but its pretty close. Don’t you just LOVE the internet!!!

West Fest parade

I am bound and determined to catch this blog up so here you are yet another one of Angela's Adventures. This past Saturday, September 20 was a crazy busy day of appearances. The day started with my joined my sister queens, Brittany and Anna in the West Fest Parade and ended at the Mall and Macy's Shop for a Cause (the next post).

One of those goofy we took it ourselves photos

Smiling pretty

Yes you are looking at the picture right Brittany and I did show up in the same dress and no it wasn't planned. We both got the same dress from one of our FABULOUS sponsors Marjorie at Haute Boutique and since the color that had been chosen for the parade was turquoise we both ended up in the same dress. You decide who wore it better *wink* but remember mine had been picked up from the store 30 minutes before I showed up to the parade so it still needs to be taken in... and shortened, I'm going to make it cocktail length.

Stephanie Hunt: Pageant Director

Stephanie Hunt is the new Director of the Teen & Miss Michigan United States Pageants

From Stephanie:

I’d like to let everyone know that I am the new Director for the Teen and Miss Michigan United States Pageant.

It should come as no surprise that I absolutely love pageantry and I’m going to throw everything I’ve got into making this the best system in Michigan. As women, sisters, mothers, aunts, and mentors, I feel it is our job to nurture the young women who will succeed us in our communities. Pageantry does more than step in where days gone by finishing schools existed. Beyond the beauty aspect that catches everyone’s eye participating in pageants teaches young women interview skills, leadership, cooperation, and how to work within their communities and support their chosen charities.

The industry as a whole has suffered somewhat of late but pageantry is steeped in tradition and we’re not going away!! Titleholders are making a difference and we should be proud of that and expect to be taken seriously. My aim this year is to bring elegance back to the forefront, and that’s where the phrase “Bringing Elegance Back” comes from.

We’re going to have fun, make lifelong friends and support each other throughout the pageant. There may only be one “winner” but each participant will leave with a sense of determination that they can do anything and they are BEAUTIFUL!! As they go out and work in their communities as local titleholders they will find that in helping themselves to be better persons they’ve taken that important first step that will enable them to help others, and find that offering a helping hand is the best feeling in the world.

I'm looking forward to this, and I will be working hard to make this the premier Teen & Miss Pageant in Michigan.

Orlando, FL September 23, 2008 Ć¢€“ Miss Florida Latina 2008, Samaria Martinez and Miss Florida Teen Latina, Saydelis Rodriguez, will compete against 28 Latinas from all over the US for scholarship money, prizes and the chance of a lifetime to be crowned Miss Latina US and Miss Teen US Latina during the 2009 Miss Latina US Pageant from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Jo Long Theatre for the Performing Arts, 226 N. Miss & Teen Wisconsin USA pageant

I made the trip to Middleton, WI today for the Miss Wisconsin and Miss Teen Wisconsin pageant. It was held at the Middleton High School Performing Arts Center.

I knew a few of the wonderful ladies competing tonight but really was perplexed as to how it would play out. There were any number of what Valerie Hayes would call "elite contestants" and I knew the judges would have some difficult decisions to make.

The lovely Denise Wallace was the host. They started with introductions of the contestants followed quickly by announcement of Top 15 in each division. Judges were then announced and included Miss USA 2005 Chelsea Cooley. Swimsuit came next followed by a musical selection by Breanna of Minnesota. After that tune there was the review of gowns with all the teen and Miss participants. There were many beautiful gowns and stunning ladies modelling them. Finalist competition followed. The show was nvery tight and kept moving. We were halfway through gown at the one hour mark.

BTW, I noticed friend of the show, Paula Preston was among the sponsors of the event. And you all think I just pay attention during swimsuit!

The divisions were chopped down to Top 5 for the onstage question.

But enough chit-chat. What are the results?

Miss Wisconsin USA 2008 is Alexandra Wehrley.
Miss Wisconsin Teen USA 2008 is Elizabeth Bryson.

Congratulations one and all!

Beauty Pageant Queens Compete in a Cook Off to Raise Funds for a Young Burn Victim

Royalty Steps Off the Runway and into the Kitchen

New Orleans, LA, September 18, 2008- When a young boy was burned in a grease fire his parents found themselves struggling to pay the sky high medical bills. The parents, who work at beauty pageants as a videographer and photography team, reached out to the pageantry community for help.

The beauty queens decided to help in the way they are most comfortable with; competing. Not competing on the runway, but in the kitchen. The fundraising idea solicits beauty pageant queens to enter their favorite recipe in "The Celebrity Queen Cook Off.

Stacy Bsjorkman's son, Hunter, burned part of his body in a kitchen fire. He required a series of skin grafts and hospital stays. This placed a severe strain on the family emotionally and financially. The  Bsjorkman family sent an email of distress to the pageant commu ity. Wanting to help Shelly Winters Black, a pageant director, came up with the Cook Off idea.

"I really want to help, so the greatest resource I have is the relationships in the pageantry community." said Shelly. "I put my thinking hat on and thought these beauty queens all love to compete, its their nature. So I came up with the idea for them to compete in a different way. The queens, and moms of kids with titles, are encouraged to pick their favorite recipe and enter it in the competition."

The recipes and dishes will be presented on Saturday September27, 2008 at 5pm in the Metarie Best Western Landmark Hotel. The Celebrity Queens Cook Off is held in conjunction with the Miss Louisiana 2008 Pageant held at the hotel located at 2601 Severn Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana 70002.

The dishes will be judged at 5.00pm by chef Beth Macalusa and the reigning Miss New Orleans Haley Ridgel. The winner will receive a banner and a crown as Miss Celebrity Queen Cook Off 2008.

To generate funds the entry fee for the contestants is $20, plus the dish, for the general public the ticket cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children to test the entries. In addition the recipes and pictures from the event will be compiled into an ebook available for $19.95. The book can be purchased online at two websites: www.shellyspageantexpress.com and www.directyourpageant.com

Fifty percent of proceeds from the night of the event will go to the Hunter Bsjorkman Fund and the rest will pay for the banner, crown and the room. One hundred percent of the cook book profits will go the  Hunter Bsjorkman Fund.

The book can also be considered a promotional tool for queens and the titles they represent. All entries should include a picture and a bio with the queens titles.  "If you have a title and a recipe you would like to enter but can't make the event then send the recipe, picture,  bio and $20 entry fee to my email." says pageant director Shelly Winters Black. "You will be included in the book as well as contribute to paying little Hunters medical bills."

The email address to enter is: shellyspageantexpress@gmail.com

or you can send the check and recipe to:

Hunter Bsjorkman Fund

122 Kingston Dr.

Slidell, LA 70458

Mrs Black says a lot of the kids with titles have been entering the contest using family recipes. "It really makes me feel good to see the pageantry family come together to assist one of their own.

Thirty Latinas from around the United States will compete to be crowned Miss Latina US and Miss Teen US Latina during the 2009 National Pageant Finals taking place in San Antonio for the first time. Representing their respective states and national heritage groups, the pageant delegates will arrive Friday, September 26 for preliminary competitions and activities, culminating on Sunday, September 28 with their presentations in national heritage dress, swimsuit, fashion wear and evening gown at the Jo Long Theater for the Performing Arts.

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) September 20, 2008 -- Thirty Latinas from around the United States will compete for scholarship money, prizes and the chance of a lifetime to be crowned Miss Latina US and Miss Teen US Latina during the 2009 Miss Latina US Pageant from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Jo Long Theatre for the Performing Arts, 226 N. Hackberry.

Miss Latina US is the first national competition established in the country in 1983 exclusively for Latinas. It continues to be the only one whose winner advances to a world competition - the Miss Latin America of the World pageant hosted annually in different Latin American countries.

Nineteen women, ages 18 to 27, will compete in the Miss Latina US Pageant. In the Miss Teen US Latina Pageant, 11 teenagers, ages 14 to 17, will participate.

"The titleholder of the Miss Latina US pageant will represent the United States on a global stage in the Miss Latin America of the World pageant, so the parameters are high," said Acirema Ayaleto, president and founder of OrganizaciĆ³n Miss America Latina Inc. "These pageants are awakening the country to what we've known all along, that Latinos have made significant contributions to the United States, that we are successful, talented and hard-working people, and our culture offers so much to society."

Miss Latina US 2008 Fatima Leonardo of Rhode Island and Miss Teen US Latina 2007 Nicole Korrody of San Antonio will crown their respective successors. Former Miss Latin America of the World Melissa Quesada, now a practicing attorney in New York, will host the pageant.

Tickets are $15 and $10. Call (210) 377-0033. For more information, visit www.missamericalatina.com.

Pictures from Tucson . . .

Whew!! What a whirlwind the past couple of months have been. I spent most of my summer preparing for Mrs. America then spent 10 days in Tucson having the time of my life. The final outcome was not what I had hoped for but at the end of it all, a kiss from my husband reminded me of what I am most proud of . . . being Mrs. Sacha!!
I was honored with an ad page award and was a top ten finalist in state costume.
click on any gallery then you can "select a different gallery" and scroll down to Mrs. Colorado to see some prelim pics. Enjoy!

After competition I was able to capture a photo with Mrs. World 2008, Diane Tucker and Mrs. America 2008, Kelly McBee. Hmmmm, if only I were a foot taller!! L.O.L.

Myself with Andrea Pruess, Mrs. America 2006. It was such a pleasure to meet her! Who would have thought she was one of MY fans! LOVE HER!

Mrs. Colorado 2008: National American Miss Pageant

I was able to go and support my favorite "pageant girl", Taylor Schettler, as she gave up her title as National American Miss Colorado Junior Teen 2007.

I met Taylor last year while competing with her mother, Janice, in the Mrs. Colorado pageant. She has been like a little sister ever since! Remember her name because she is going to be something great someday . . . who knows, maybe even Mrs. America! Okay, I'll settle for Miss Teen USA first!

On this date in 1984 Vanessa Williams became the first African American Miss America. Though she later resigned after some then-controversial photos surfaced, her groundbreaking place in the history of the pageant will always remain. Click the play button below to see that incredible moment.

Maria at Make A Wish-Wish Day!

September 13th was Wish Day at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina. The state fair grounds in Raleigh were jam packed with fun activities that all the kids seemed to enjoy! Wish Day is my favorite day at MAW because it offers a day for the kids free of needles, treatment and fear. I was so honored to be a part of it! The smallest things, like face painting or sand art lit up these wish kids faces, which in fact was the greatest satisfaction. Wish Day was a huge success :) Thank you all wish staff and volunteers!
