Mid-Iowa Newspapers - Boone woman crowned Mrs. IowaBoone woman crowned Mrs. IowaUpdated 06/21/2008 12:06:04 AM CDTLaura Diers, of Boone, used her beauty and brains to earn the title of Mrs. Iowa-America last weekend.
"I've been in the pageant circuit since 1999, and I'm usually first runner up," Diers said.
Diers typically does one pageant a year, so as to balance it with her family and professional life, working for Stott and Associates in Ames.
"It's a tricky balance that requires sacrifices, but I don't ignore my family by any means," Diers said.
Another factor limiting Diers' attendance at pageants is the cost involved.
"Pageants are not something that pay you back financially," she said. "But it really helps in self growth and confidence building."
The only other title that Diers has won was the national title in the 2006 Beauties of America pageant.
