Miss America ratings up 52 percent on TLC

TLC’s broadcast of the Miss America pageant, which was preceded by a four-week reality series Miss America: Reality Check, was watched by 3.63 million viewers.

That’s an increase of 52 percent over last year’s pageant on CMT, “and up 18% over 2006 on CMT when it averaged 3.07 million total viewers,” Broadcasting & Cable reports.

It was also the top “show on cable for the night with viewers 18-34 (1.25 million), women 18-49 (1.44 million), women 25-54 (1.06 million) and women 18-34 (924,000). All of those demos were up at least 88% over last year,” the site says. The pageant’s “median age was 37, almost seven years younger than it was last year.”

One of the pageant’s contestants, Miss Utah Jill Stevens, was selected by viewers of the reality show, but was eliminated following the swimsuit competition.
